One thing I never thought I would see is a Russian pair skater wearing black nail polish. Stolbova and Klimov skated to music from “The Addams Family” so it was a part of her costume; but it’s not something I would have ever imagined seeing back in '72, '76, '80, '84…

**The Ladies’ part of the competition is coming up and she will probably skate that program again. **
The pairs are skating as we speak (and Hoosier Daddy, I think the Winter Olympics are better than the Summer too).

Still better then the German pair, with the lady in the hot pink spandex. My eyes!

Don’t get me wrong, I loved it. It’s just not something that I thought I would ever see.
LOL, it is probably my age showing. The first Olympics I remember are the Barcelona Summer games, that was in 1992… I was 6. I probably only remember that, because we were vacationing in AZ with some relatives, and when it was too hot to go outside (all afternoon), we would play games and watch the Olympics. The first winter games I really remember are Nagano games in 1998…😛

Womens Downhill. Tie for gold!? How is that fair? Make them arm wrestle for it!

Sochi is in a subtropical climate. Their AVERAGE high temp in the winter is 50. Cities in the US with a subtropical climate include San Antonio, Houston, and Jacksonville, FL.

Olympians are using the warm temperatures in Sochi, which usually has balmy temperatures during the winter due to its southern location, to call for action on climate change from global leaders. They are politicizing the Olympics to ask world leaders to reduce emissions and work toward “a compact for the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris 2015.”

Meanwhile,

Last night was a lesson in class.

Plushenko, Facing an entire nation that looked to him, tried to skate and could not. He gave a classy and wonderful interview after. I only could think of the US “star athletes” who give interviews and compare it to this father, countryman, and competitor.

Then, the American Skater, Abbot, falls and no one would have blamed him if he limped to the locker room. But, knowing he would not win any medal, he got up, and gave an amazing performance, for the fans.

Then came slopestyle skiing where the Americans Dominated and looked very good.

MAN! I love the olympics!

Finally, TV that I can be proud to show my kids!

US/Canada men’s hockey semi-final. Canada leads 1-0. They’re not getting as many penalties as the women’s hockey game yesterday.

Canada goes for gold on Sunday vs. Sweden at 6:00AM CT.

US goes for bronze tomorrow.

I have to say, rooting for Canada. I do not like hockey. And hockey to Canada is like Football to the US. So Throw eggs at me all you want, this red blooded american is happy with a medal other than gold and Canada is where that gold belongs anyway.

Except in 1980. The US owned it in 1980.

Had to go watch the final minute of that game to soothe today’s loss. :bighanky:

There’s a lot of speculation that the Team Event was “created” so that Plushenko could win another Olympic medal (with the help of a “team”) and set a record, and then bow out of Men’s Singles, citing his injuries. (He wouldn’t have a chance to win a Mens’ Singles (individual) medal with the current crop of male skaters.)

A year ago on the U.S. Figure Skating forum, many of us predicted that this would happen, and it did, pretty much exactly as we predicted it would happen. Hmm…

I also predicted that Gracie Gold would be 4th in the Olympics. 👍

I loved the skating and since you are talking about the conspiracy stuff. What is the word on the ice streets about the Russian coming from out of nowhere to win Gold. I am reading many people are thinking it was a judging conspiracy.

Real cloak and dagger stuff!

So, since you are the skating insider for the CAF community and since I singed that petition I have been getting numerous emails in my inbox;) I know you are connected.

Not the first time that such a thing has happened in the skating world, i.e., Sale and Pelletier in 2002 (Canadian pairs who should have won the Gold without having to share their first place finish with the Russians).

Also happened basketball in 1972. The Soviet referees gave “do overs” to the USSR twice in the final play of the gold medal game for various reasons, and on the third inbounds pass, the Soviets score to win. After years of shoddy refereeing, the US decides the heck with it and uses their professional basketball players just like the other countries have been doing. And then the world cries foul about the unfairness of the Dream Team?

And remember the doping scandals that used to plague the eastern bloc athletes before the fall of the USSR? Or the Chinese using underage gymnasts? Skating scandals are terrible because at least on non-judged sports, the person not cheating have a chance still. They can outright beat their competitor. Not so when you have Russian judges on the take.

It wouldn’t be so bad if the highlight wasn’t about the “stumble” 😃 The “technical aspect” was gleaming in full effect.

Breaks of the game I guess, that said I still think the 15-yo was clearly the best skater, she ran into the same enemy “pressure” . He never has to practice, he only shows up at the competition. 😛

This is what the Russian Gold medal skater said…

t.foxsports.msn.com/olympics/russias-sotnikova-i-won-gold-because-i-was-better

“I skated very well and my technical score is higher than Yuna’s. My jumps were more complicated, especially in the second part of the cascade, rotations for the fourth level. That means I was better in technique. I skated very well.”

Got that?

In other words…She said; “Stop whining and practice harder” 👍
I can’t stand when they make the winner explain the scores when the judges are the ones who need to explain. It isn’t the skaters fault the judges are corrupt. Most skaters handle it with class, unless they are Surya Bonaly or Tonya Harding…
