was the sin of sodom homosexual?
**was the sin of sodom homosexual?
Thank you.Good answer, Holy.
As much as militant homosexuals would loudly protest to the contrary, it was/is/will be homosexuality.I think they also drank milk after the expiration date. Seriously.
**You do realize and understand that the sexual act of sodomy is not relegated to homosexual activity, but to heterosexual sex too.The homosexual behavior was indeed the greatest sin. Part and parcel of the entire ‘mantle’ of sinfulness of which the act of homosexualilty was the gravest evil was other licentious behavior (adultery, promiscuity, rape and sexual sins), a perversion of all godly teachings as portrayed in Scripture (the culture thought of hospitality as a sacred duty. Not only did these people actively deny hospitality to strangers, they would beat, despoil, rape and if possible kill strangers for their own 'amusement), and a final ‘impenitence’ which led them to refuse to ‘listen to God’ (whose laws are written on the human heart) and totally reject Him.
While it may not be politically correct, the fact is that humanity is made in the image of God, male and female, and that the task God gave them was to ‘be fruitful and multiply’ (among, of course, other things). Homosexual behavior directly perverted God’s creation of male and female, directly denied God’s mandate, and was deeply disordered (even until the 20th century it was recognized as ‘disordered’, was ‘politically’ gerrymandered into ‘only a disorder if the person is concerned about it’ in the 1970s). Those who chose it did so freely, knowingly, and in full defiance of the teachings of God. Short of murder only, which destroyed a person in death, homosexual behavior destroyed the ‘germination’ of life and unnaturally elevated the sexual act not into both procreative and generative mutual love of husband and wife with the openness to bearing and caring for children, but into an act which stands separate and is solely and selfishly meant for a painful physical ‘pleasure’ on the part of one or both involved, with no procreative or generative aspects, not in mutual love but in mutual or one-sided lust, degregation, and sexual ‘dominance’ and depersonalization.
So… are you trying to say it wasn’t the milk?!?As much as militant homosexuals would loudly protest to the contrary, it was/is/will be homosexuality.
Well, yeah, but “let’s go to the tape”.**You *do ***realize and understand that the sexual act of sodomy is not relegated to homosexual activity, but to heterosexual sex too.
Even when Lot offered up his daughters, the townsmen persisted:Before they went to bed, all the townsmen of Sodom, both young and old–all the people to the last man–closed in on the house.*** 5 ****** They called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to your house tonight? Bring them out to us that we may have intimacies with them***.”
I have two daughters who have never had intercourse with men. Let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you please. But don’t do anything to these men, for you know they have come under the shelter of my roof."*** 9 ****** They replied, “Stand back! This fellow,” they sneered, “came here as an immigrant, and now he dares to give orders! We’ll treat you worse than them***!” With that, they pressed hard against Lot, moving in closer to break down the door.
That’s what I’d call it. Arrogant, blatant, and coupled with violence and threats. The ultimate in self-centered behavior.was the sin of sodom homosexual?
If you don’t mind, I’d like to post the entire passage. I believe it makes the point clearer. The usage of feminine nouns and pronouns are actually references to Wisdom (or lack of it in this case). Wisdom, aka “Sophia”, is a feminine noun, and Wisdom personified in the Bible is always described in feminine terms.Ezekiel 16:49-50:
And look at the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters were proud, sated with food, complacent in their prosperity, and they gave no help to the poor and needy.
Rather, they became haughty and committed abominable crimes in my presence; then, as you have seen, I removed them. (NAB)
But I think in addition to homosexuality, the other sins mentioned in the thread were contributing factors at least. After all, in the Old and New Testaments, God talks a lot about the requirementt o be kind to the poor and strangers and not to be violent or cruel. So I think homosexuality, adultery, rape, inhospitality, greed, arrogance and gluttony must have all been part of it. And of course all these were results of abandoning God in favor of false gods. That’s consistent with archaeological findings of ancient cities in the Jordan plain with immense wealth for their time, and a lot of skulls and skeletons that seem to have died violently, particularly those of children and young people. These cities had huge statues, ziggurats and other artifacts showing that they appeared to worship a god with a bull’s head and a man’s body, and in some cases a serpent’s tail.If you don’t mind, I’d like to post the entire passage. In this passage we have God portraying His relationship with Israel by first, in verses 1-14, describing Jerusalem as an exceedingly beautiful young woman. It’s the precursor to Revelation, where Jesus is the bridegroom and the Church is the bride.
Ezekiel 16:1-3, 43-50 Again the word of the LORD came to me: "Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD to Jerusalem:
"Have you not committed lewdness in addition to all your abominations? Behold, every one who uses proverbs will use this proverb about you, ‘Like mother, like daughter.’ You are the daughter of your mother, who loathed her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite. And your elder sister is Samaria, who lived with her daughters to the north of you; and your younger sister, who lived to the south of you, is Sodom with her daughters. Yet you were not content to walk in their ways, or do according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways. As I live, says the Lord GOD, your sister Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done. Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, surfeit of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. They were haughty, and did abominable things before me; therefore I removed them, when I saw it.
The Letter of Jude reiterates Sodom’s condemnation and makes the point clearly. The sin of Sodom was “unnatural lust” - homosexuality.
Jude 5-8 Now I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that he who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels that did not keep their own position but left their proper dwelling have been kept by him in eternal chains in the nether gloom until the judgment of the great day; just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.
Hopefully as you can see, based upon the “Christian” responses you’ve received, just how distant their answers are in relation to what scripture, and the biblical and contextual facts surrounding it present the sin of Sodom as being. And contary to what is obviously a popular error on the part of such “Christians”, the sin of Sodom was not homosexuality. Not even a little!was the sin of sodom homosexual?
You seem to be interested in the details. Well, so am I. In your post above you highlighted the following sentence. “***They were haughty, and did abominable things before me”***Why did you do that?If you don’t mind, I’d like to post the entire passage. I believe it makes the point clearer. The usage of feminine nouns and pronouns are actually references to Wisdom (or lack of it in this case). Behavior? Where in the Genesis passage concerning Sodom and Gomorrah is this “homosexual behavior”, of which you mentioned, described? The homosexual behavior was indeed the greatest sin.
Genesis Ch. 19Behavior? Where in the Genesis passage concerning Sodom and Gomorrah is this “homosexual behavior”, of which you mentioned, described?
Can it get more clear than that? The men of Sodom wanted to rape the male angels, i.e. sodomy.4 But before they went to bed, the men of the city beset the house both young and old, all the people together. 5 And they called Lot, and said to him: Where are the men that came in to thee at night? bring them out hither that we may know them:
