You can’t avoid the historical support that distinguishes the succession claimed by the Catholic Magisterium from the Mormon claim founded solely on Joseph Smith’s visions. Mormon claims are more like Muslim claims. A divine revelation from an angel delivered through a wounded intellect is incorruptible and necessary in order to correct the corrupted divine revelation delivered by God Himself in the flesh. Very difficult for a Trinitarian to accept for sure. Most mainstream protestants consider mormonism outside the pail. Paul demonstrated that the authority of a vision relied on it’s conformity and submission to the authority delivered in the flesh.Hi Benadam,
Thank you for your kind and respectful post. I know it is difficult to communicate through e-mail. We all have our presuppositions. I do not mean to state this in disrespect for Roman Catholic Christians. But, when you discuss and debate authority with LDS Christians (Mormons), they too will claim apostolic succession. Aposotlic sucession (Roman Catholic or LDS) is a different form of authority than Scripture alone. The basis of the Protestant Reformation is the rejection of the Catholic magestrium for final authority of Scripture. How does God speak to us authoratively? Here is a simple non-essential debate to illustrate my point. Do you believe the first Pope had a wife?
Yes I believe the first Pope had a wife.
