So, recently, I’ve found that I have feelings for one of my guy friends…and I’ve also found that he has feelings for me too…and I’ve also found that two of our friends are totally busted because I’ve recently found it was their intention to get us together from the start…Anyway, he’s really sweet, he’s a good Catholic, funny as heck, extremely intelligent, and a real gentleman…(so I don’t have to worry about my dad, uncles, little brother and best guy friends killing him
) We also agree a lot on our life outlooks, on politics (we’re both very pro-life but still liberal in some other respects), very into our respective cultures (different, but still similar in some ways), and apparently, not only do our friends approve, they were the masterminds behind it all, apparently…
I also had this huge realization. You see, I’ve only dated once and that was long distance. Other than that, if I ever detected feelings, I’d run. I’d be afraid of A) throwing my life away (I know, bogus, but I have been fed that lie by well-meaning older adults, you can still do well in school, get a job, and have someone you may end up marrying in your life) B) ruining friendships (also bogus, because the one guy I did date is still a friend today) and C) getting hurt (again…you’ve gotta risk getting hurt at some point or another).
But these few weeks, it’s like God has been trying to tell me a few things…like, “As long as you are prudent and seek Me, you will be happy…” “You know not the plans I have for you…” “Why don’t you think you can serve Me and fight for the poor and oppressed with someone at your side?” “This doesn’t mean you’re getting married tomorrow…”
Further, when discussing this with one of my housemates (not Catholic, but still a deeply devoted Christian), she gave me some sage advice about future plans: “K, you just don’t know…Who’s to say, if he’s meant to be in your life, you can’t travel and do what you want WITH him? Maybe these feelings you have are temporary and this won’t last…or if it does and you know it’s from God, you won’t worry…but fear is not prudence and is not from God.”
In any case, we are taking it slow, with prayer…neither of us is rushing to the altar in any case (we’ve got to graduate and be fully supporting ourselves)…but I may end up seeing someone
And he’s Catholic!!! PRACTICING!!! Yay!
