Some think Matthew 4:4 is teaching sola Scriptura

What mercy did the thief give out?
"Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us.” The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply, “Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.”

Just as Jesus attended to the spiritual well-being of those he ministered to, these Spiritual Works of Mercy guide us to “help our neighbor in their spiritual needs”: Admonishing the sinner is one of seven spiritual works of mercy; the thief rebuked the other thief.

AugustTherese:
To have Him abide in us is to have His Spirit, Body, and Blood infused into our beings, which is done through the Sacraments, most notably through Holy Baptism and the Eucharist.
These things do not save you.
This prefigured baptism, which saves you now. - 1 Peter 3:21

Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. - John 6:53

Peter is not about baptism with water in this scripture
“In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient while God patiently waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few persons, eight in all, were saved through water. This prefigured baptism, which saves you now.” 1 Peter 3:19-20

You can only receive communion AFTER you are saved. So once your saved you then have a right to communion, but communion doesn’t save you.

‘Not through water’? I do not recall seeing that in Scripture. Also, Baptism, through water, and through the resurrection of Jesus Christ saves you; it’s both/and, not either/or.

There are 2 types of baptisms
The first is the baptism with the Holy Spirit when we become saved. The other baptism is with water once you are saved as a profession of your faith.
Matthew 3:11 John the Baptist also points out the difference between these 2 types of baptism.

“…one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism…” -Ephesians 4:4-5
So how do you explain Matthew 3:11 and Acts 11:16?
“He will baptize you with the holy Spirit and fire.” - Matthew 3:11

The fire is obviously not literal. He mentions fire because of the refining and cleansing effects Holy Baptism has on whomever is being Baptized.

“John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the holy Spirit.” - Acts 11:16

This is emphasizing that John did not baptize with water and the Holy Spirit. Notice, the passage does not say, “you will be baptized with the holy Spirit without water”.

I am saying that believers receive both types of baptism. First the baptism with the Holy Spirit AT THE MOMENT THEY ARE SAVED, then there is the baptism by water which is an outward showing of the inward change.

When the Holy Spirit can to the apostles on the day of Pentecost He fell on them as tongues of fire.

Except that we do not have Saint John the Baptist baptizing us with only water. We have the Eternal High Priest who baptizes us through his earthly ministers with water and the Holy Spirit; one baptism. To say otherwise is a mutilation of Scripture and 2,000 years of Apostolic Tradition.
