I’ve received a message from a poster on youtube. It was sent to me - not posted as a response to a video. The message is respectful and it says that the person (I think it is a “she”) would like to discuss Catholicism with me.
I know how important this is. I know that I have to do this. But I don’t want to make any mistakes (although I’m sure I will). I’m just a beginning apologist and very poorly catechized, my knowledge of Scripture is poor, I’ve never read the Bible from cover to cover. But I do know some things about Church teaching and I feel comfortable in discussing common misconceptions, like how Catholics worship Mary and pray to statues, etc. I’ve learned so much on CAF! And I am also blessed to know someone who is very knowledgeable on Church teaching because she has been studying it for about 15 years. I think I’ve now stumped her three times and I talk to her almost every day (and for hours on Sundays).
What I’m requesting is advice. Is there anything I should do and (maybe more importantly) is there anything I *shouldn’t *do? Maybe a seed has been planted in this person’s head or maybe I can help plant a seed there. Maybe, just maybe, this person will become a Catholic.
I don’t want to mess up. I want to share Church teaching and I want to do it charitably.
I can’t tell her “no.” I just can’t.:nope:
Any advice? Help? Ways to avoid falling into traps?
HELP!
Thank y’all in advance. I am excited and scared at the same time. In the last few days I have felt a calling to give my life to God’s people. For some reason I didn’t understand until God hit me in the head with a spiritual two-by-four. And then this youtube message appeared. I listened to Collin Raye’s rendition of the (well-known to everyone but me) hymn which has the following words:
"Who will bear My Light to them?
Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord.
Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night…
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart."
Please help me hold this child of God in my heart. Thank you.
