Something everyone should do (Save Darfur)

Raised voices for the Catholic issues you all care about are posted regularly here.

This isn’t affecting you personally, but it is, no offense, clearly a lot more important than the next showing of Brokeback Mountain. It’s a website dedicated to saving the people of Darfur. For those who don’t know, Darfur is a part of Sudan. Three ethnic groups there are being targeted by armed militia supported by the Sudanese government. It is, in short, genocide.

The site has a petition on it to send a request to President Bush, that he send aid to Darfur. We of course have nothing to gain from this except the true support of peace, and the chance to save so many people.
 
This has been on my mind lately. Thank you for posting this. I can’t imagine the horror these people face. 😦
 
We should not forget that many of the people being slaughtered are Christians They are our spiritual brothers. (The Janjuweed are Arab Moslems.)
 
I don’t know if you realize that President Bush wants to help Darfur. The problem is that the other politicians and the people who vote don’t want him to. He thinks it would be shooting his party in the foot.
 
To be sure it’s an awful situation. The reluctance of Western poliicians to get involved is somewhat understandable given how ineffective they were, for one example, in Somalia.

Of course there are other things we can try in order to help - donations to aid agencies working in the area, offering our prayers…

It’s actually a predominantly muslim area, but they are still your brothers in humanity. I know you weren’t saying it should make a difference, I just want all to remember that people are people. Even Carrot Top.

I wish I could donate. I have before. But this is a good way to help for people who don;t have much money.

And Somalia didn’t go well, but Yugoslavia went better at least. We can never be assured, but we can try.
 
Where is the exaulted U.N. when they should be there? We hear nothing of them.

Actually, it is a mostly Catholic area. The Moslems in the area by-and-large support the Janjuweed and thus are usually left alive and in their homes. It is the Christians and other non-Moslems who are being slaughtered, raped and driven from their homes.

But even if the opposite were true, it would still be a awful, terrible, unspeakable evil that is being done to these people. Their race and religion do not matter to the human tragedy. But we must not ignore the fact the it seems to be the “religion of peace” that appears to be motivating the Janjuweed.
 
Um…whoever edited the thread title spelled Darfur wrong. Was that me? I don’t think that was me.

You know, maybe it’s just because I still have a functioning bull**** detector, but that screams of being fake to me. I mean, look at it. “Behead those who say Islam is violent.” If you can detect absolutely no deliberate irony in that, your satire alert system is broken beyond repair. Until you can prove to me that’s an actual Muslim, and they are actually serious about a sign that seems so obviously a joke, I’m afraid I’m not going to take every silly picture you find on the internet seriously.

At any rate, I’m asking you all to do something for humanity. Can you not lay off the Muslim bashing for even one single solitary thread? Is that really too much to ask? I’m beginning to think a few of the people here enjoy it.
 
Its real… believe or not… its up to you. It was taken at a anti-war demonstration. Can’t give ya a link… the site I got it from is down. You need to calm down.

They seem to do too little too late… if they do anything at all. And when they do… it seems like it takes forever to get anything done. In the meantime more ( sometimes millions ) of ppl suffer and or die. 😦
