The worst thing you can say to a teacher, like me, is that you only work 9 months out of the year and you are just babysitting. I dare you!
LOL! Molly, speed reading a teachers thread is not a good idea. šŸ˜‰ Mommy is a teacher. The thread was meant to be a joke: ie: tongue in cheekā€¦

Thank you for coming to my defense once again!šŸ˜‰

KCT, I missed your question. I have to say, though, that Kathleen pretty much summed it up for me. (Thanks Kathleen! Now I donā€™t have to type so much. šŸ˜ƒ )
This is such a tough issue. But, IMO when the situation becomes a non-educational issue, and the only thing that can be provided is respite for the family, the cost needs to be covered by medical coverage or social services and not school taxes.

I still believe that the costs need to be shared by society. But, not by the school systems. The use of school taxes to provide these specialized services creates divisions between people with disabilities and those that do not.

Gee, where do you people live??? Around here, if you donā€™t pay your school taxes, they add the amount on your property taxes.
Then, if you donā€™t pay either of those, you have 2 years to make up what you owe. If it isnā€™t paid, they can auction off your propertty. Period. No guns, no resisting arrest, none of thatā€¦In fact, if you own the house, you can get on a payment plan & pay back taxes off a little at a time.
People get behind all the timeā€¦No one killed yet, nobody even arrested. I mean, its not illegal to not pay your taxes; its not even that big of a deal. They donā€™t want your house; what are they going to do with it?? Theyā€™ll never get the full value of it at auction. Half the time, they donā€™t even get enough to pay the back taxesā€¦Which is why they want you living there: Youā€™re pretty much the only one who wants the place.šŸ¤·
Zooey, yes! Youā€™re scenario sounds much more reasonable to me! I didnā€™t get the dramatic ā€œIā€™ll die if I donā€™t pay taxes!ā€ either. I wasnā€™t sure about jailtime, either, but I figured he mustā€™ve known something I didnā€™t about it! lol Like I said, your scenario sounds a lot more like what I originally believed the consequences to be.

In my district the school wage tax is 1% of wages. Then our home is also taxed this year it will be $3000 and the state taxes added to this.

If you do not pay the wage tax they garnish 10% of your wages to pay for this and this includes around an added 75% in fees and fines. There is no lower limit on the amount you earn. If a child is working part time and makes $10 1% still goes to the school tax.

The house goes to tax sale after 1 year. The only notice they have to give is a newspaper notice, letter and a posted note on the nearest phone pole. Most of the homes and land that go this way are owned by the elderly and poorer citizens that have no further resources to pay the ever growing tax burden on their homes.

So no you donā€™t get killed just get moved into the high rise with the other non-land owners that are poor.
