Something sad and the catholic church in the future

More and more people are leaving my church and it is really sad. First, we had to cut down the number of eucharistic ministers we had and soon the church is going to just have one mass over the weekend instead of three. I’m an altar server and I said a speech a couple months ago to our Sunday school class about getting other kids to become altar servers. Instead of people joining, people laughed and smirked at me. The fact that they laughed at me doesn’t make me sad. What made me upset is that nobody wants to go to church anymore. I really want people to spend time with God and feel close to Him during mass. There are also only a few kids that come to mass every week. If only a few kids go to mass, what will happen to the Catholic church in the future? This makes me worried. I am definitely going to pray I just feel like I should do something more. I just don’t know what else I should do. I’m only 16. Any advice? Is stuff like this happening to other churches or is it just mine?

You, dear child, make our Lord smile. Please pray for me and for your fellow parishioners. Offer up every little thing, even this. Offer happiness, offer sadness, offer hope, joy, sadness and disappointment. Give it to Our Lady to unite to Our Lord’s suffering, and live your faith with joy and full radiance. He’ll do the rest. The Rosary, The Rosary, The Rosary.

Just say a prayer and Don"t worry the Lord will provide it ,if many are leaving ,there are also thousands converting to Catholicism, and there are many Catholic coming back.and yes pray also through Mother Mary she is the Queen of Heaven ,she knows very well how to take care of her household,as she did it at the wedding of cana. God Bless

I like how you mentioned how Mother Mary is the queen of heaven which just happens to be the name of the church I attend (Mary Queen of Heaven)

Sweet Alex,
You do make God smile. There is a philosophical pendulum in life. That means the Earth. Or A people, a society, a church will have good and bad spells. The pendulum swings to war, than peace. A ppl does good, then slips and gets bad. The church receives and loses. In the middle, the pendulum centers for awhile and all is good.
So, in your area, there is an exodus. Ask your parents why? Some churches look at their communities and try and figure, what does it need? A day care for kids? A meal for the homeless. Things like that. The church should be a living part of the community. That’s how some churches fix the exodus. Having Italian night pot luck suppers. Switch the nationality. Watch Sister Act I & II.
Lord, before You, we have a heart that loves You and wants to increase the population of Your church. Let his voice stimulate a new day where he lives.

I know some people have left our church after we got a new priest a few years ago. Some people (including my parents) find the priest’s homilies to be boring because he speaks in a quiet monotone voice.

That is a drag. We had a monotone priest once. It was torture. He was a military Chaplin and was in WW II. Brave man. Say something to your parents. Maybe he can say the mass and a second priest can say the sermons.
It’s a tough one

Maybe your church could give a luncheon in Father’s honor and get to know him better. Was he this way all the time?? I think not.

He just seems to be a quite introverted kinda guy. Which I have no problem with because I’m an introvert myself. Every once in a while the deacon may say the homily which allows for a change in pace. Luncheon sounds like a good idea!

Keep praying. I share your concerns. I went to Catholic school where very few remained in church despite many having a religious upbringing and pretty much every parish I have been to has had cutbacks or mergers. I also have extended family who live in areas with no Catholic Church. Keep all these things in your prayers.

Is stuff like this happening to other churches or is it just mine?
It’s not happening in every church, certainly not the 3 or 4 around here I go to on a regular basis.

I agree you should pray and not worry about it. People who would leave over a priest’s homily were looking for an excuse to leave for reasons they probably don’t want to share. Pray for them.

It is a sign of this age. The Church is being starved from within, most young people love this world and its many distractions. You remain strong in the faith and be a light in this mostly faithless world. Pray for those people who mock you that they can one day discover God’s love.

Pray for the Church. God will provide for all that we need.

I am really sorry they laughed. Very rude. Good for you to invite them, though.
