 I was just defending the woman who most likely did lead the OP to sin.

Good grief Charlie Brown! You have heard of free will I pray. When deciding on marrying someone, I would be much more worried about whether or not they are racist or homophobic or a continual liar than if they are a freaking virgin or not.

I know that moral teaching have not been altered, I am not stupid. What I mean is that we have a more “free” view on moral now.

And I did understand that the OP is a guy. I was just defending the woman who most likely did lead the OP to sin.

I think it is wrong to accuse someone who need advice. It really don’t help him, poor chap. He must have a hard time right now, accusing him self and been uncertain if he ever can marry because of his sin, which is BTW forgiven and forgotten. Why are you so hard? Empathy is needed in cases like this. But I am maybe just stupid and above all have a very childish faith, a picture of a loving and understanding God is what I see and hear.
There is no such thing as a free view on morality and sin.

 That’s not “defending”! That’s making uncharitable assumptions and blaming her for his choice! For all you know, he led her to sin.

My only advice is that are always consequences from immoral acts. Just make sure that you do not have any children that you are not taking care of and that you have a clean bill of health, no STDs. After that do not discuss your sexual past with a potential partner until you get to the serious part of the relationship and when you do that do not get into the specifics, anyone that would ask for specifics might have a morbid curiosity that is not a solid base for a good relationship.
I do not find Cristiano’s response to be harsh. God’s moral laws are not whimsical. If a person is raised to be chaste until faithful in a monogamous marriage, the chance of STD’s, fatherless children, or unmarried parents, and other serious complications will diminish. Moral laws cooperate with nature.

The problem is that our present society thinks that “cooperating with nature” means acting on sexual impulse without thought to future physical and emotional safety, and without thought to future children and future generations. (Chlymidia, for example, also can render one sterile if not treated in a timely manner) Refer to nature and you will see that the young survive best with both parents alive, close, loving, and interacting. Acting on a sexual whim, with condom, contraceptive, or not, can lead more than one person down a dangerous spiritual, psychological, and physical path.

Of course God knows all of this and thus we have our moral laws. Following these laws will not kill us; ignoring these laws might kill us. My brother died of AIDS. He was a good person but he ignored moral laws in his personal life. Not all who ignore moral laws will contract an STD, but society pays a price anyway. Disrespect and disconnection are two examples of moral results of sex outside of marriage–has anyone seen Hugh Hefner lately? Very disconnected. And he still has a magazine and club to promote that disconnection.

What I ask is how does one learn to foster a chaste life in themselves and in their children when society has so de-valued virginity (did one of the previous posters use the term “freakin’ virginity”?) . A virgin used to be seen as virtuous; now it’s seen in some circles as some kind of neurotic disability if you are a virgin over the age of 15!!

When one turns their back on their own and another’s sexual integrity they are often led there by others: parents, friends, community. If they never learned to respect their own sexuality in a truly full manner, if no one ever taught them to be chaste, how could they be fully accountable in their sin?

To have erred is a problem but to walk away from sin, beg God’s forgiveness and increase understanding and valuing of chastity is a sane and respectful thing. Those who have fallen away but found their way back can often give others a great gift in learning how to continue to value God’s laws. That was all my brother could give.

To the OP: if you have these feelings that are “bugging” you, you certainly are already educating others that your present regrets are reason enough for others to stay on or seek a solid moral path of chastity.

My favorite metaphor of the difference between sex outside of a marriage and sex inside of a marriage is this: Outside of marriage, sex is a forest fire; within a sacred marriage, sex is a blazing fire in a fireplace. You do not deny the natural power of sex with that statement–you just put sexual nature in a saner and safer context. If you can put some of your regrets into promoting the “fireplace”, then you probably won’t be so haunted by your past.

Lesson learned. However that was not what I did mean. There is of course any free view on morality and sin, people just happen to be more “free” which is not necessarily a good thing. There are much more situations where people can sin today then let us say 1930. And as a man I must say that it is far from sure who did seduce who, we men are not the most reliable things on this earth. For the rest of this thread I will not take part in it anymore mostly because I lack knowledge and here is a cultural barrier between us. I am not saying that people in Europe are bigger sinners then in US, we don’t “isolate” our self, that is a thing I have noticed on many forums, and not only religious web-sites. I understand that it is normal to live like that where there are fewer Catholics and a real need to stay away from other religions. Is it bad or not I don’t really know. All I know is how we live in Finland. (I have never really been traveling except for a few times in Spain and France.) And in Finland this issue is a sin, naturally, but it would not be a topic for this long. Confessed and absolved end of story.

I am grateful though for your answers, I learn all the time new things, so God bless and forgive me, I know I am far from a intellectual person and I don’t know much.

I’m not really sure what’s bothering you OP. You’ve been forgiven. Either you believe that or you don’t. Plus when it comes to women, in my experiences, every single woman I know would find a man who is able to have sex with woman much more attractive than a virgin. Women in my experience find virginity in men to be a huge turn off, they think that this man is a “creeper” and other such expressions. Women for some reason find men that have been “pre-approved” by other women to be much more attractive than a man who is not “pre-approved” by other women. This is why, for example, most love songs written by women are about the woman attracting a man who is beloved by many other women, and not about a virgin who doesn’t get around with all the other women.

So really OP you’re sitting pretty. You should probably find better things to worry about.

So I could say that God in this way is using by lack of virginity to attract women to me? So God permitted me to do this evil because it would allow me to find the best spouse possible?

Estevao, I agree with your last two sentences but I think you are lost in your previous statements. Whether you take a poll or not, I doubt your “every single woman” statement makes truth. You, or your friends, are assuming that a virgin is not able to have sex, and conversely that a non-virgin IS able to have sex. Poor assumption. Read some statistics: many men with multiple sex partners suffer from impotency.

I personally do not subscribe to your “pre-approved” theory. And I know many women who do not want to know about a man’s sexual past. All they want is a present and a future with a solid, trustworthy man, not a philanderer.

And your women’s love song thing is, well, weird. Do you listen to too much country music. Most women’s songs I have heard are about loyalty and being true, OR are about some trashy guy that they want to kick in the head. I don’t know a “Hoooo baby, I love ya’ cuz you got a whole string of lovers, can’t wait for my turn…” Are we in the same world?

Look, we are on a Catholic thread answering an OP who is trying to deal with Catholic morality. The secular world has its pressures but at the heart of the secular world is an awful lot of manmade confusion. It’s best to confess your sins, admit your mistakes and stay humble, not proud of them.

Your reasoning here is a little twisted. Are you being sarcastic?.

God is working with you wherever and whatever, He allows you free will but He also set up some good rules to live by. When you break those rules, whether you knew right or wrong, there are still earthly consequences. God did not permit you to do evil BECAUSE it allows you to find your best possible spouse.

I really hope you are being sarcastic.

God has a plan for us all, I’m sure whoever you meet will accepy you, heck perhaps your future spouse might have a similar history, you can’t change what you have done BUT you can change how it effects your future, your character and your relationships
