Can we maybe tone it down on all the Trump vs Biden nonsense? I’m all for people having honest and intellectual debates about the two candidates. But sharing constant articles of every unproved allegation against either candidate does nothing for the users of this forum who are primarily here to learn about Catholicism. I’m not singling any one person out but just want to make a general shout out to everyone. I’ve lurked here a long time and had an account a long time ago. I’m interested in getting back into things here but have to admit, having the front page constantly blowing up with Trump vs Biden, this unproved allegation vs that bad remark, is disheartening. Let’s all re-orient on our mission to spread the Gospel. For those of you more politically minded, let’s have threads for debate but maybe keep it to a single thread? Or a couple? That way we’re not all drowning on the front page in a mire of political accusations and candidate bashing (one way or the other). I’m here for the faith, not American politics.

Just my two cents.

God Bless everyone!

Sounds like something a Trump supporter would push to try and silence negative press to stop voters from being informed.

Slava Na Viky! 🙂 😉 I agree SlavaIsusuChristu, and welcome to the forum.

As an old user/ long time poster, I would absolutely LOVE it if the entire forum would take your advice.

Unfortunately, it is probably not going to happen, and I doubt the moderators are going to close or remove all the threads where this ruckus is going on.

I would suggest making liberal use of the Mute button to get this junk off your desk top so you can read the Catholic threads. It’s driving me up a tree too and we have a whole thread of others complaining about it as well.

Lol are you being sarcastic? I can never tell online so I try not to make assumptions. To be fair, the overwhelming articles I have seen have been anti-trump and have been proven to be false accusations. I am pro Trump and will vote for him in November. But I don’t want to see Trump every other article every time I browse this forum. The fact that there are threads still going on about the Atlantic paper is just discouraging. It was already soundly refuted. There’s nothing left to discuss! Yet it keeps coming to the top because people keep posting on it. Too many of these political threads are just beating a dead horse. And respectfully, I simply don’t care about other people’s political opinions anymore than they would care about mine. So what’s the point of debating endlessly? The misinformed Catholics who think they can justify voting for a pro abortion platform will vote against the faith. Those who try to respect what the Church teaches will vote according to the Catholic faith. No one is going to change anyone’s minds by arguing about Trump vs Biden. Especially not on the internet. It’s just all so tiring lol. Frankly, I don’t know how people have the stamina for it (and I’m only 32).

Well I’ll be. I didn’t know I could mute entire threads to get them off the lineup! Thank you much for this wonderful advice!

Welcome.

Years ago this was my go to for actual world news. People would post things the U.S> media did not cover, or rarely covered.

Now, it is just nonsense attacks on each others. We need more people to calm the waters here. Perhaps your two cents can help.

I was just going to recommend the same thing.

Many posters here have muted the World News threads and life is much more pleasant! Also, when an innocent thread suddenly turns, either mute it or, even simpler, leave it and move on.

Many enjoy voicing their political views. They’re allowed with some limits on civility but many are quite happy to never even see these discussions!

Welcome and enjoy!

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome. God’s Blessings on you all!

I wish the moderators would open a new category “American Politics” and leave the World News to just that, it’s just the same old gripe every day, and it wont matter who wins, the losers will still be griping and the winners saying how wonderful things are. Politics is the new religion, forget about Catholic charity, it’s all for the party here on CAF.

YES!!! Love the idea.

I have noticed that. It’s truly unfortunate. What’s even more alarming, for me, is how many self professed Catholics seem to justify voting for candidates who are very public with their anti-catholicism or animosity towards God and His Church. But if I have learned anything in the last 7 years of attempting apologetics online, it’s that I’m never going to change someone’s mind by debating them. Even if I “win” the argument, it doesn’t go anywhere. Far better to correct where correction is needed, as charitably as possible, then disengage and focus on praying and fasting for that person (or people). It’s far too easy to get sucked in and be robbed of your peace. We shouldn’t let anyone take away the peace God gives us, know what I mean? That’s what I try to live by now. I don’t allow myself (or try not to) to get drawn into political stuff or the current problems in the Roman Church (liturgical wars, orthodox vs heterodox clergy, this or that parish going off the deep end, etc). It’s enough for me to acknowledge that it’s happening, pray for those involved, and just stay out of it lol.

Drama sells 'round here.

Wouldn’t have it any other way😄

MAGA ! 🇺🇸

Oh the tone on that has been that way since the 2016 election. I like your advice. But I don’t know that we will see it implemented. That said, I’ll make an attempt to implement your advice.

Election years tend to have more passionate debate. There are also some accounts that start to show up before the election and stir the pot. But the day after the election all activity on those accounts flatline.

I found it a curious characteristic of the Forum and wonder if it reflects America as a whole. I dont think it does. I think its a case of the loudest people shouting to be heard and agenda posting. Maybe they are being dismissed in real life and turned to this platform to be loud. It will end hopefully after the elections.

Welcome to our world here.

It’s been like that every election year since long before 2016 😉
Oh, yeah. I’ve been on here since before Bush II (2004), and it was just as bad then. Not as much to link to, but the back and forth was just as bad.

Highly unlikely.

If you wish to minimize exposure to all the foolishness, it may be worthwhile to block all the topic categories except for the ones that actually pertain to Catholicism.
-Peace 🙂

In 2004 we could bash Trump all we wanted without disagreement. 🙂

Seriously, when did CAF first open up?
