Sometimes I feel
Your feelings aren’t really that important for the purposes of this forum. What you can support by evidence and logic is important. And so far you are remarkably long on rhetoric and short on evidence and reasoned argument.

Edwin

Protestants (I was one, so I can speak of my evangelical sisters and brothers in Christ), do not believe Catholics are saved.

They are misinformed and accuse Catholics of a lot of things Mariolatry, praying to statues, and worshipping bread are a few.
Catholics explain that we don’t do those things and the protestant refuses to believe.
Sorry, but you do not speak for this Evangelical in those positions you lay out, and I am hardly an oddball for my generation.

This thread is weird. Was it an attempt to have people bash each other?

Not all protestants think that all Catholics are not saved.

People believe what they believe. Protestants and Catholic alike. Whether accurate or not.

I get this from Protestants that tell me so. So there goes your theory…

Sometimes I feel that Protestants here fully understand that the Catholics were the first Christians, and that Jesus Christ did in fact establish this church. That the bible is a Catholic book and that everything was Catholic in belief back then, 2,000 years ago.
I also think they understand where and why the papacy was started, what Scripture backs it up and the Sacraments Christ left us upon His return. Some Protestants here will say, yes, I do believe this but when the Reformers came…etc…
Well, if Jesus Christ himself established and founded his Catholic church, way before the Reformers thought things weren’t going their way, why aren’t they Catholic? If Christ, loooong before ESTABLISHED THE CHURCH before any Protestant saw the light of day, why aren’t you in the church looooong before the Reformers came?? The Reformer’s were not Christ, therefore Christ did not start ANY Protestant churches…
You are brainwashed.

Some interesting statements. Some Protestants think that all Catholics are not saved, some think they are. Who within Protestantism can infallibly decide? Why no one, of course! And so it goes, private judgement and its (il)logical conclusions.

The Reformation was more about political, rather than doctrinal changes. It is regrettable that it happened. But I suspect pride is not confined to Protestants, or there wouldn’t have been a schism in 1054… which hasn’t been healed yet, either.

Is that your personal opinion?

You cannot compare the changing of the Word of God from the Reformers to the Schism of 1054…totally absurd…

OTCA, when you say pride is a deadly sin, what do you mean?

For example, if I’m too “proud” to convert to Catholicism (quotation marks used to denote sarcasm), will it be “deadly” for me? Say, in a spiritual sense?

What I’m basically asking is, do you (and your church) think I’m saved as a Protestant? This is one question Catholics can never seem to give me a straight answer on. They usually respond with “no one knows who’s going to heaven, that’s up to God”. Well, if no one knows, how do you know that you’re going to heaven? Aren’t you just taking a chance as well?

I have spoken to other non-Catholic Christians who tell me they are afraid the Catholic church IS the true church and that they have been sinning all along. This is a true story. One said he doesn’t know how to become Catholic, it just seems to hard, another said he is probably in denial because he doesn’t want to give in. Honestly, I would help these people in a heart beat as I’ve helped others. But they don’t want it.
I truly believe if you know in your heart that the Catholic church IS the true church of Christ, and do nothing about it, it is a grave sin.
I am not God. I cannot judge who goes to heaven and who doesn’t. But I can say most if not all will end up in Purgatory BEFORE they get into heaven. And this also goes for your last question as well. PURGATORY FOR ALL…

Apparently not buddy. I know some/a lot of Catholics will go to heaven, and I know some/a lot of protestants will too. Please don’t generalize that you know the whole protestant group cause you were one. I am a baptist, and no one, that I know of, at my church thinks all catholics go to hell, or most. They really don’t care, they seem to focus on bible study, not judging. Of course, my church is a pretty small church, even by our standards (100 is the average).

O.K. then, thanks for clarifying that for me. 😉

On a side note, I do not believe I am like those people you listed in your example. I believe the church I am in now will result in salvation through Christ and that’s why I do not want to change. I like my church and am happy with it, basically.

After all, I had to humble myself from my previous beliefs as an atheist. I was always against organized religion and spoke badly of God and anyone who followed Him. I thought they were ignorant, brain-washed and mislead. I was always sure science could provide the basis for human existence and man-made constructs could provide a grounding in moral integrity.

But once I discovered the message of Christ, I changed my ways. Even at the risk of looking like a hypocrite in front of everyone I know, I still did it, because I knew it was true and right. I would have no problem humbling myself again, I just don’t think it’s necessary and nothing you say could ever change that.

I’ve heard all the arguments, I just disagree.

We usually respond with this statement because it is true. I’ve never heard any Catholic say that they know that they are saved, Sola Fide and “once saved, always saved” are things Catholics don’t believe in. Yes, being a Catholic is a chance to get to heaven, but Catholics being in the fullness of truth is 100 percent true. Where you get this idea I do not know.

Reasons I have not joined the RCC:
  1. Papal Succession, I believe Jesus did give Peter the Keys to heaven, but I do not see how you get that he passed that power down.
  2. Priest Succession, I believe the disciples were given the power to forgive for Jesus, but I do not see how the succession came to be, same as #1.
  3. Purgatory, do not understand it much at all. #
  4. Catholic History, I do not like the idea of joining a Church that had prominent rolls in things like, Mass-Murder of the Templar Knight Order, Crusades, Inquisition, Money Indulgences, and other things.
  5. Mary, yes I know, mother of god, but I still don’t get why she seems to be glorified as much as Jesus.
Their is probably more, but thats some of the major ones.

Why do you keep Manny’s post as your signature? That’s awfully mean.
