Catholig,

yes that was me posting that link one time. BUT: After still somebody else (and now I forget who it was:blush: ) posted it for ME. And it helped me out so much.
I was going to post it again here, but then I saw you had already done so.🙂

Image of God,
if you suffer from scrupulosity, which I would think is a form of OCD (do you think you have other obsessions/compulsions too?), then it is very important to learn to distinguish scrupulos thoughts from “real” thoughts.
Often you kind of FEEL that a thought might be just a sruple, am I right?
You can pray about it and ask God too.

And if you feel you are obsessing about something, keep telling yourself: “This is just my scruples talking! It is my brain playing tricks on me!”

Do you know that OCD can be seen in brain images? The thoughts actually get kind of “stuck” in a cycle.

Kathrin

I have the same problem with scrupulosity, and I have some of the effects of OCD. My scrupulosity was terrible a few months ago. But over time it has gone down through prayer, but every once in a while it pops back up. With intrusive thoughts, I dont think I can distinguish unwanted thoughts from real ones accurately. If Ive had ocd/scrupulosity for as long as I can remember, then wouldnt it mean that my brain would have always functioned like this, and I wouldnt know how it would feel differently, so in my mind intrusive and real thoughts kind of blend. The biggest problem I have with scrupulosity is the false guilt that I feel, this often makes me feel depressed and frustrated.

Maybe I do have OCD, but I hope not. I don’t need anymore mental problems. I feel like some thoughts are scrupulous, but I’m not really sure if they are.

I don’t know if its my brain or Satan doing the tricking.

Another idea about the am-I-lying-when-praying thing:

When you first start praying, ask God to help you be sincere.🙂

I suspose that is convienient.:crossrc:

By the way Kathrin, I love the quote from St. Alphonsius that is on the website. Thank you, it is really inspiring.

Did you know that obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating and body image disorders, post-traumatic stress, phobias, addictions, all fall under the umbrella of “anxiety”? When you begin to manage one disorder, especially with serotonin-enhancing nutrition or medicine and therapy, you will begin to notice the lessening of the other anxiety disorders. So don’t think of it as “more mental problems” but possibly a variety of symptoms with one cause. It is a freeing thought.

Also, it was explained to me that there are things of God, things of the earth, and things of the devil and that when we are sick (an earth thing), Satan loves to take advantage of our illness and try to make things messier. This is why being open to good health can be pleasing to God. However, it does not mean that if you are sick that you are displeasing to God. Some of our greatest saints struggled with physical and mental illness. So my opinion is that your brain is undernourished and perhaps repeating and misfiring (read Kathrin’s earlier posts); and while you are weakened, the devil steps in and messes with your thoughts so that you give him the credit (or blame) for the whole thing. Let others pray for you and with you (I will pray for you), and remember the words in the Wizard of OZ. Tell Satan: “Be gone! You have no power here.”

I have many phobias. That of insects, dirt, just about anything, and they are very overwelming.

Image of God,
I really think you could benefit very much from talking to a professional about it.
Ha, I remember one time at church I asked a priest a question, something I was obsessing about (about a candle I had lit that went out again or something), and he said something like: “No, it doesn’t mean anything like that, it is just your obsessive-compulsive thinking. Are you on any medication?”
Wow was I stunned!
I went to counseling after that. But it was years before I started taking medication. And it really really helped me.

I will. My neurologist said that OCD is a possibility. Anyway, thank you all for your help.
