Image of God,

Feelings can sometimes be deceptive. If I were you I’d pray. Again - you don’t have to say anything profound. Just the Hail Mary, or Our Father. You might even try some prayers from the Raccolata (I only mention this because I’m using it now. 😉 😛 :D). I could e-mail you some or PM you some prayers that are “new” to help you if you want . I doubt that prayers can be copyrighted, right?

Sure, but I going off line soon, so I might not get them until I return.

I do, but then I think my heart is lying.
I am really sorry you have to go through this.
Do you just THINK that your heart MIGHT be lying, just on some level?
Maybe (like me too and mayn others) you suffer from scrupulosity, which can mean you feel TOO guilty almost about everything and really obsessing about it.

Is there a part of you that feels you are being too hard on yourself?

I think this is a possibility. I am very obsessed with everything and think that almost everything I do is a sin. Even the things I love, I think that the fact that I love them is because of material attachment. This type of behavior is very discouraging and makes soaring spiritually very difficult. In the things that I love I think that the fact that I love them and don’t like something else is a violation of God’s will. I am afraid that if I love something, it will prevent me from fufilling God’s Will.

“Jesus, have mercy on me a poor sinner”

I have gone through similar situations as yours. Trust me this prayer covers everything. Just don’t pay attention to what you are feeling of thinking. There is one truth, you want to be at peace.

My suggestion is keep repeating that prayer until you find peace in your heart.

Sometimes we have many clouds in our souls and we can’t simply see clearly or feel clearly. Sometimes it is the Evil one harassaments. The only solution left is to cry like a baby until someone shows up. That’s why I highly recomment that prayer if it is still difficult, just keep calling “Jesus”

Whether you are lying or not, He will fix whatever is wrong with you. After sometimes, I am sure you will find peace. Don’t be discouraged whether it takes hours or days. Just have peace in the fact that you are calling ‘Jesus’ the only name given to us for our salvation.

I find that prayer like going up stairs. It can take alot of stairs to reach where we need to be. Just ‘pray unceasingly’, your peace will increase as you pray.

Call Jesus and know that he want to fix whatever is wrong with you.

There is a word Mother Angelica likes to say that you should consider:

**“It is a kind of insult to God to think that your sin is greater than his Mercy”. **

Remember that his mercy is infinite, your sin can never beat it. So call Jesus, Just call him until he fixes everything.

I don’t know if I could do that. I don’t feel that I could. Talking to anyone feels like talking to a complete stranger. I feel it neccessary to hide myself from everyone, mainly because I feel ashamed what everyone might think if they knew my weakness. I’ll try.
that’s a start. but i hardly think your parents are going to see it as a weakness to speak to them.remember, God loves you, and we also care for you, and don’t forget that. use it as a source of strength to cover you as you speak to your parents.

a priest is also not going to judge you. he is not in the business of judging people. he is there as a representative of Christ and he is there to listen to you. he is also confidential as well.

I love Mother, I watch her show everytime I get.

Anyway, all I can say thank you. I have never thought of the name “Jesus” as a prayer, but it does seem right.

Ok. I just feel so nervous approaching my parents. They don’t seem like the sensitive type.

speaking of obsessiveness, iam a diagnosed obsessive compulsive.
period. i believe every little thing i say or do could be seen as a sin. i know that that is not the case, but believe me, i know what it is like to obsess over every little thing. don’t let that discourage you from talking to your parents.

courage! you don’t know the minds of others, so give them a break:) be gentle and ask for time to speak to them. don’t put it off. you strike me as a very gentle well spoken person, so don’t put it off:)
the sooner you speak with them, the sooner you will feel better.

I know exactly how you feel, I feel the same way so I keep everything to myself. I dont want to tell my parents somthing personal and then have them think of me differently.

my friend, parents are there to love you and to be there for you. if you don’t tell them what is going on with you, then how can they help you when you need them? we all need our parents at some point in our lives.i’ll give you a prime example of me needing my parents, i went through a really bad time in my life, and i was not close to either one of them through my own fault, and that fault was not wanting to open up to my parents. when i suffered i could not tell them anything. but eventually i did, and my parents were there for me, much to my surprise! i wish i had been different and told my parents everything that was going on with me. i love them dearly, and iam glad i can tell my parents things when they need to be told.

The only thing you can do and know that you are not sinning or lying is to show yourself to Jesus as you call him. Call him and ask him to consider what he see in you and fix you up.

I have been through a similar situation. Like you I got discouraged from praying the rosary because It felt like I didn’t true feeling of enough love to match all the words. But I grew to understand that it is all the harassment from the devil.

When you pass this stage you will understand why the devil has to consantrate his army on you. He is trying to prevent something great. Take courage and trust Jesus. God is preparing you for something great. Now it looks like darkness but soon the sun will rise and you will be glad you trusted the Lord.

Unite your situation with Jesus in the Garden of Gathsemeni. Even Jesus thought about abandoning, and felt confused. The servant is not greater than his master. You are very blessed to be in such situation. Call Jesus as you meditate on the sorrowful mystery. When you feel like dying, remember what Jesus said. Die to yourself and you will wake up in paradize. If a decision is though to make, and you feel like you will die, consider it a death in union with God. You will wake up in paradize. The devil does not want you to see what is beyond the cross, what is beyond this dark night. It is wonderful. So take courage and take the cross of Christ patiently and courageously, persevere as you go through your sorrowful mysteries, then you will se the glorious ones.

If you have time you may want to read “The Interior Castle”. I think it will help you to understand what is going on in your soul.

I thank you. I don’t think I will cease to look at the website for a while. I think I do suffer from scruples.
friend, i struggle and suffer from a form of scrupulosity myself. its a hard thing to deal with as you well know. but the best thing to do is to lay it aside as best you can, and speak with a priest or your parents. trust me, my scupulosity kept me from speaking to my parents or a priest. i eventually did, and it was a blessing believe me!

Yes, this is how I feel. It is no easy task. It’s not like the old days when it was so easy for kids to approach their kids. These days, parents seem to be so unapproachable. Parents are hardly in the lives of their children, but through no fault of their own. It’s just that the business world has gotten so much harder.

Catholig,
That link about scroupulosity is really great. I also have a problem with scroupulosity, but it is reducing with prayer.

I agree with you that many parents arent in the lives of their children. But I dont blame mine, both work hard and pretty late (even when I was really young) to support the family and pay for our education, but nevertheless I still dont feel comfortable approaching them with more personal issues.

Oh yea so do I. I cant stand my scrupulosity, its a giant weigh ton me, but I always hold true to this advice. “Pray unceasingly as to avoid falling into temptation”

“Pray unceasingly as to avoid temptation”
Yes, this is the only solution I found to our problem. Prayer increases our confidence. Our worries and doubts are like clouds and prayer rises us above them where they don’t affect us.

This is my currently favorite big quote from De Caussade

"*On then, my soul, on with head uplifted above earthly things, always satisfied with God, with everything He does, or makes you do. Take good care not to imprudently entertain a crowd of anxious reflexions which, like so many trackless ways, carry our footsteps far and wide until we are hopelessly astray. Let us go through that labyrinth of self-love by leaping over it, instead of traversing its interminable windings.

On, my soul, through despondency, illness, aridity, uncertain tempers, weakness of disposition, snares of the devil and of men; through suspicions, jealousies, evil imaginations and prejudices. Let us soar like the eagle above all these clouds with eyes always fixed on the sun, and on its ways, which represent our obligations. All this we must needs feel, but we must, at the same time, remember that ours is not a life of mere sentiment, and that it does not depend upon us either to feel, or to be callous.

Let us live in the higher regions of the soul in which God and His will form an eternity ever equal, ever the same, ever unchanging. In this dwelling entirely spiritual, wherein the uncreated, immeasurable and ineffable holds the soul at an infinite distance from all that is specific in shadows and created atoms, it remains calm, even when the senses are tossed about by tempests. It has become independent of the senses; their troubles and agitations and innumerable vicissitudes no more affect it, than the clouds that obscure the sky for a moment and then fade away, affect the sun.

We know that all passes away like clouds blown along by the wind, and nothing is consecutive nor ordered, but everything is in a state of perpetual change. In the state of faith, as in that of glory, God and His will is the eternal object that captivates the heart, and will one day form its true happiness, and this glorious state of the soul will influence the material part which at present is the prey of monsters and savage beasts.

Beneath these appearances, terrible though they be, the divine action will so work on this material part as to make it partake of a heavenly power which will render it brilliant as the sun; for the faculties of the sensitive soul, and those of the body are prepared here below like gold or iron, or like canvas for a picture, or stones for a building. Like the matter of which these different materials are composed they will not attain their brilliance and purity of form until they have passed through many alterations, have endured many deprivations, and survived many destructions. Whatever they suffer here below under the hand of God serves to that end.*"
