Hi…I dont know if the mods are going to say I better see a priest on this matter but here it goes…

I go to confession regularly and deeply feel guilty about how I lived my life in the past…I know that I am trusting the Lord for my salvation but I think there is always that nagging feeling…just what if i dont make it?..is there a prayer for this kind of thinking…

Thanks…

I think you should spend more time reflecting on the fatherhood of God. God is our Father and we can’t ever forget that he wants us to go to Heaven more than we do. Imagine having a child and how badly you would want that child to find their vocation and find peace and joy in their life. God wants that for us to an infinite degree more than we do for our children.

Peace.

yes thank you. He wouldnt like it if I doubt His love and goodness…afterall the ones that end up in that place are the ones that to the end show no remorse for their actions and refuse Gods love. THanks~

Haunting or recurrent thoughts of the past can form the worst of prisons: that which we construct for ourselves. Until and unless we overcome those thoughts, there is no release from that prison.

Your sins are gone. You can mourn, as we know that those who mourn will be comforted, but also “He who puts hand to plow and looks back…”

Certainly speak with Father about your spiritual state, but also consider that we live in the age of epidemic cognitive difficulties. Anxiety. Scrupulosity. OCD. Yet, all are treatable - if - they pertain to the situation.

My past is absolutely horrible. I still shake my head - but I am certain of God’s mercy. 100% certain.

I struggle with similar thoughts many times, since I struggle with scrupulosity.

One key is to recognize these thoughts as temptations. As Fr. John Hardon said about those who are sincerely striving to do the will of God: we can suspect that we are being tempted by the evil one, whenever we find ourselves worried, anxious, or disturbed.

These temptations can be even more challenging than other temptations.

Devotion to Mary is very helpful to deal with scruples and all our problems. As St. Alphonsus Liguori says in “The Glories of Mary”–a book that helps me very much–Heaven will be open to all who trust in Mary’s protection.

Jesus said “Behold your Mother!” Rather than looking at ourselves and our sins, we can focus on our Blessed Mother.

So are you dwelling on the past, or are you worried about the future, or is it both? The filial fear of the Lord is a gift of the Holy Spirit, which is a profound respect for the majesty of God and the effects are protection from sin and a strong confidence in the power of his help. Protection is through dread of offending the Lord.
