My son was also in jail for 13 years. He turned 20 the day he was sentenced. I prayed, cried, prayed and cried for all those years. My heart goes out to you. I will be praying hard for you & your son. My sadness & prayers now is for my son’s mental health. He had serious mental problems and I could not get him to a doctor. He refused I believe because the truth of his problems hurt him too much. He has been out now for 4 years and is still suffering and still does not want to go to a doctor even if he could afford.
I suffer from a lot of guilt as I did not realize how much my abusive x husband was harming this child. Never physical toward him but mental. Was physically abusive toward me. I was very young.I had no choice but divorce. I did ask a counselor that I was seeing if someone should see son as he was only 6 and worshipped his father and I felt he was taking it all very badly. They told me “children are resilient” and I trusted that they knew more than I as I had no confidence at that time. I don’t think anyone would say that these days as they know better. X stalked me for almost a decade and the authorities were useless. Son saw a lot of violence toward me from father and son was used by father to get to me. Now he loves and wants to kill father at the same time. We really need good mental health services in prison as I have read that as many as 70% have problems.
I will be praying for your family and please pray for my son as he now has 2 precious babies and so needs to find peace in his soul over his relationship w/his father.He tried to commit suicide a few months ago because of his love/hate relationship w/ father. God Bless & keep you.
p.s Sorry, didn’t mean to make this about me as I know you are suffering. I just need prayers for him now as much or more than ever.
