What is wrong about the following words “I adore you with every breath that I breathe” and Acts.17:28 - twinc

Here’s the verse you mentioned:

Douay-Rheims Bible
For in him we live, and move, and are; as some also of your own poets said: For we are also his offspring.

And this is the website where I found it:

bible.cc/acts/17-28.htm

There are a lot of other translations too, but they’re all pretty much the same.

I don’t understand what the connection is between the song lyric and the verse. Perhaps reading the lyric in the context of the rest of the song would help. What’s the name of the song?

I forget the song but I remember these words more as a saying than as a song and then it struck me that these words are wrong with reference to Acts.17:28 - twinc

Does anybody really “adore” God with every breath they breathe??? I’d like to meet that person or be a fly on the wall.

I think that would be a great achievement amidst the pressures and other stresses of our lives. If we did that, why would we need Church and sermons? Sounds like a lone-ranger Christian could have written those words.

Well, Jesus became man to show us that it can indeed be done. Mary also, obviously, adored God with every breath. It can be done, we may just think that it can’t.

I know I will never stop trying to do just this, even though I fail at it so very often.

As I recall, in The Way of the Pilgrim the Pilgrim sought to adore God with every breath by constantly repeating the Jesus Prayer.

Are you double-posting on another site maybe? Covering all your bases? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I suppose
so just about everything has been searched out and said except the most obvious to those who know and it is most imperative that all know here and elsewhere to tell others and give the glory where it belongs to a fantastic and intelligent designer even though many would rather stay blind and deny this - twinc

so in conformity with Acts.17:28,what is obvious but not recognised is that we do not breathe.we only think we do and not only that but we only think we think wheras in truth thoughts occur - here we see intelligent design for was breathing or thinking left to us some just wouldnt bother, some would only want to do it now again or when they felt like doing it and some would even forget to do it etc - more later - twinc

I can’t remember who it was – Augustine? – but the standard interpretation of “pray always” is that, if you start the day praying and have the intention to do all things for God, and if you don’t sin during the day, that constitutes praying all day.

That said, I have some difficulty as a songwriter with the line. To “adore” is at root “to kiss”, as if kissing God’s hand or foot. So the image I get is like the worshipper is Pepe LePew!

Still, it’s better than “to dare to seek to dream”. 🙂
