Songs with awesome guitar solos--ideas for my dd?

Before Adrian Vandenberg joined Whitesnake he had his own band, Vandenberg.

I’ve always loved the solo for “Burning Heart,” but this live video was all I could find on youtube. The studio recording is clearer. Around 3:14 it starts but the opening licks are muffled, but then it picks up again.

I went to a Whitesnake concert in college…😃

You know who I always liked, and you rarely hear them anymore even on ‘oldies’ stations…is BAD COMPANY. Hey, whatever happened to them? I saw them in concert too. 😛

You know who dd’s guitar teacher told her about last week, is the guitarist that played when Van Halen broke up, and the guy who sang for them (Can’t think of his name) went out on his own and came up with Skyscraper…remember that? He is an awesome guitarist, I like how he makes the guitar “talk.” :o ***
 
Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen. I always liked “Three Lock Box.”

Bad Company is great, but not known for guitar “virtuosity.” Paul Rodgers really made that band.

I know Floyd was mentioned on this thread already, but the solo for “Comfortably Numb” is still astounding. A good solo to learn and a great crowd pleaser 😃 (once your daughter starts gigging that is, which shouldn’t be anytime soon, of course…)

We’re buying her ‘pod farm,’ have you heard of this? It is a sophisticated way apparently:rolleyes: to wire your guitar to youtube, so the sound is 1000x better, according to dd and her youtube pals. She showed me one kid’s video, and wow, it really makes a difference. It sounds like you’re in the room with the person playing, no disconnect, or static, etc…

This also reminds me of a story I once heard about a young guitarist… this young man very excited to tell George Harrison that he had finally, after much work, learneded to play the lead guitar part from “And Your Bird Can Sing”- very challenging, required very quick and nimble fingers, but he got it to sound just like the track on the record. So George Harrison looks at him and says, “But [the] lead part on the record is two guitars!”

That said, it would be a cool guitar piece to learn, and the lyrics are pretty much meaningless as far as I can tell.

Actually, the “young man” that had that exchange with Harrison was Joe Walsh from The Eagles. The 60’s and 70’s did awful things to Joe’s brain. :cool:

“Classical Gas” is great. But you really need to learn it from sheet music. It’s one of those pieces, like “Freebird,” that someone always calls out for from the back of the tavern, usually with slurred diction from too many Jagers.

Haven’t heard of pod farm. I don’t have the dough to keep up with all the lastest gadgetry :(.

Okay, now I know who you are talking about. David Lee Roth left Van Halen and teamed up with Steve Vai. “Yankee Rose” and all that.

Re: Free Bird…funny story…My dh and I went to a wedding when I was pregnant with our daughter…this was some 14 years ago…and the wedding was a very small gathering maybe 50 people…in a small hotel suite…with a wonderful older gentleman who played jazz piano as the entertainment…background music, really. As the night wore on, my dh blurts out…Free Bird, when the man asked for requests. 😃 It was funny. Everyone laughed.

You had to be there. 😊***

Awesome! 😃 That gag really never gets old. I’ve always wanted to go to a Chicago Symphony Orchestra concert and yell “Freebird.” I’d probably get thrown under a bus on Michigan Avenue.

I thought it was interesting. Micheal Anthony from VHalen on bass and the old Chili Peppers drummer. Cabo loco!
 
***DD just got home from guitar lessons, and her teacher would like her to pick a slow song, and a faster pace song for her next concert/recital. She picked Sleepwalk…I love this song…it’s relaxing for a change. (far cry from Bullet for my Valentine)

What do you think about that slow song? Or she said maybe Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight…

I like Sleepwalk, has my vote.***

***I can’t find her exact model in the dean guitar site, it’s a dean…but this bears a very close resemblance…except hers is tan/metallic body, 6 strings, with a switch (I don’t know the exact term lol) on the body. This one in the pic doesn’t have the switch on the body. It’s a very “pretty” guitar…I personally liked the hot pink one, but her teacher told me she had her eye on the tan metallic one (I surprised her with this for Christmas this year) (Her teacher sells guitars too) ***
