Brother Mardukm,

The Chaldean Church’s official title is The Holy Apostolic Chaldean Catholic Church of the East.

The other two non-Catholic Churches of the East are the one’s mentioned earlier.

I hope this distinction would clarify the matter.
Thank you brother. That does help. I will keep it in mind.

Blessings,
Marduk

I have never heard of this title

In France the Chaldean Church is legally registered as:

L’eglise Chaldeennee Catholique de l’Orient - Chaldean Catholic Church of the East

Pardon my ignorance, Marduk:

What does CAF stand for?

For the record (I don’t see where the option for voting in the census is, if it’s still open), I’m canonically a Roman-rite Catholic (born Lutheran) practicing in the Ukrainian rite whenever I’m in a city with a Ukrainian church. I’m still working up to the traditional Eastern fasts; my endurance level is still pretty Latin in that regard.😃

Any of those more knowledgeable in this subject are welcome to correct me if I’m wrong, but I do believe that the Ukrainian Catholic Church is of the Byzantine tradition. So, if a Ukrainian Catholic were to vote, they would choose “Byzantine.”

Last year, I asked a Chaldean if I could classify them as “Oriental” (as distinct from “Eastern” who are traditionally Byzantine), and that person said “yes.”🤷 Should there be another category? And why (if you don’t mind my asking)?

Blessings,
Marduk
Chaldeans should be grouped with the Malabar Catholics (or is it the Malankara Catholics?) as an East Syriac Church that correspond to the Church of the East.

I’m Maronite and designate myself as Oriental Catholic. Marduk, I think that you are the origin of the distinction between Oriental and Eastern. Technically Oriental means Eastern but the distinction is an easy way to recognize the difference.

the origin of the distinction is references to the two orthodox communions, specifically, the EOC and the OOC, terms used in both catholic and non-catholic sources for more than 50 years.

As the Moderator has been gracious enough to establish this thread as a REFERENCE thread, I encourage all our Eastern and Oriental members to participate in this Census.

I can’t figure out how to change my vote… 😦

I think I should be in the Church of the East being in the Chaldean Rite… and with ChaldeanRite the user…

BUMP

Since I’m sure there are other Eastern, Oriental, and ACoE members who have joined CAF since the last time this thread was in plain view, I thought I’d make it obvious so our newest members can join the census.

If no one has noticed, this census is actually included as a “Reference Thread” in the Moderator’s sticky section at the top of the forum board.

Also, as you may have noticed, this census permits the pollsters’ names to be displayed. The reason I did this was for the benefit of our non-Latin inquirers, in case they wanted to contact someone personally to ask about your particular Tradition.

Blessings,
Marduk

Marduk, this census was done before I joined 😃 but I have registered with the competent authorities.🙂

Romanian Byzantine Catholic is where I attend and have for a few years now. We are active.
We were both baptized RC. Yet since my father was Russian Orthodox my formal affiliation would be Eastern Catholic.

Specifically, you would be Russian Catholic… and the local Latin bishop is your proper bishop.

On a spiritual journey that began in the mid 90’s, culminating in 2011, my wife and I, with the approval of the Church (involving the guidelines established by Rome), made the transition from Roman Catholic to Byzantine Catholic, Ruthenian Rite. We took over 15 years to make the decision to formally change, to insure it was based on spiritual reasons, feeling we could retain our “catholicity,” while formally recognizing the eastern spirituality as enhancing our relationship with God. It was not absolutely necessary as such, for we were quite happy as being RC’s attending the eastern rite. During these years, I had asked God to give us access to this ritual Church, as I traveled and moved across the western US. We always found work and living in areas with this rite. It may not be for everyone, but it was for us. We have 9 children who are Roman Catholic, while the parents are Byzantine Catholics. Since the children were already of age, they retained their Roman Catholic status.

To give my background, I’m Eastern Orthodox, a member of a parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. I converted from the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod about 6 years ago. I’m engaged to a Roman Catholic girl, so when we marry and become “one flesh” we’ll be living the reunion of the churches in our persons!

hmm, no place for Maronites and the Chaldeans and Syro-Malabarese aren’t Orientals - they are counterparts to the Assyrians and ACOE - which are two different Churches
