Sources on Catholic Sexual Morality

Can anyone recommend some good online sources regarding Catholic sexual morality? I’m interested in explanations of the Church’s teaching, the authorities it’s based on, etc.

1)Ronald Conte Jr.
2)Germaine Grize
I found them both very conservative but telling it as it is so to speak.It would be
interesting to know what you think.should you find anyone you might consider
authoritative I would be interested in hearing about them.

These are NOT persons authorized by the Church.

To the OP:

Look into the teachings by Pope John Paul II “Theology of the Body” and “Love and Responsibility.”
 
The previous post recommended JPII’s writings, and I second that. They can be found on the vatican website and I think EWTN. I’m not sure if they’re on catholic.com.

There are some excellent books, as well.

One of my favorites is “The Good News about Sex and Marriage” by Christopher West. It is in a question and answer format but also references JPII’s Theology of the Body and Humanae Vitae. He also has some more theologically heavy books that I think are good.

I have also heard great things about “Holy Sex” by Popak

This is the one subject that led me to learn more about the Church. I hope you enjoy!

Ronald Conte Jr. makes reference to a book promoted by the “Knights of Columbus"as part of their Veritas Series, “Proclaiming the faith in the Third Millenium”.
The title of the book is"Catholic Sexual Ethics”.The Author is William E. May,Michael J.McGivney Professor of Moral Theology at The John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family .
Germaine Grize the last I heard was Roman Catholic and is or was Professor of Moral Theology.The name of the university escapes me at the moment.
I have Christopher West’s book " The Good News about Sex and Marriage"I didn’t find much difference between what he was proclaiming and what the two aforementioned sources had to say.

Just remember, nowadays when there are so many bad books out there, even ones which claim to be catholic, never trust any book that has not been approved by the church, always look for the Imprimatur, Nihil Obstat, or Imprimi Potest.

Germaine Grisez and his publisher have graciously made his book on ethics:
The Way of the Lord Jesus
available free online:

I have the print version and it is three massive volumes.
I more approachable summary of the same topics can be found in his book
Fulfillment in Christ
by Grisez and Shaw

I generally recommend Grisez and his work as a good source for Catholic ethics, but I don’t agree with everything that he says. Most of his work was done before Veritatis Splendor, and he tends to have less emphasis on intrinsic evil and on the three fonts of morality than I would like.

Again, these are books on Catholic ethics in general.

Here is a couple of excelent sources for the information you are looking for one.
Go on Google put in Oral Stimulation and the Catholic Church. Make sure you put in Oral Stimulation.
Notra Dame will come up. Click on that One source is from a book by Jason P Palermo called The Morallity of Oral Sex within Sacramental Marriage. The other is Moral Theology 201 Human Sexuality and the states of life by Father Jose’ L Lavastida.
Another source is Sensus Traditionis
Put that on the internet and click on the middle one of the first three. It is a series of Audios by Father Chad Ripperger FSSP Phd. He is a professor of Dogmatic and Moral Theology and Philosophy at Our Lady of Gaudalupe Seminary in DEnton Nebraska.
He says the same as the others plus. Anything you want to know is on there.
This is the true teaching of the Church. Always look for Impramatur Nigill. nothing else is authentic.

Thanks again for all the suggestions! I’ve now read the “Declaration on Certain Questions Concerning Sexual Ethics” (one of the documents in Joe’s links) and found it very enlightening. I’m sure I’ll be re-reading it often. I want to give Veritatis Splendor a careful reading next.

Someone previously mentioned that Conte’s opinions were not Vatican approved, but where could one find information like that???

Yes, I am contradicting and arguing against certain points made by West and others.

In general, theology books and articles are not ‘Vatican approved’. The imprimatur is given by a local Bishop (who usually has not read the book that bears his imprimatur), and is a fallible decision of the temporal authority, not a decision of the Magisterium. Unfortunately, a book with the imprimatur may still have significant errors on matters of faith or morals.

The Vatican does not unequivocally endorse the writings of particular theologians (except for perhaps St. Thomas Aquinas ;)).

There can be disagreements in theology, but that doesn’t mean that one party is “Vatican approved” and the other is a flaming heretic. There are certain areas where good Catholics are free to disagree. I haven’t read everything by Christopher West, nor have I read what Ron Conte has written on the subject, so I cannot comment on that specifically. But I can say that I do know some good Catholics who have definite problems with some aspects of West’s take on the Theology of the Body. Then again, I also know some good Catholics who think West is right on the money.

That’s why we shouldn’t get too attached to a particular theologian or school of theology. Even the very, very good ones are not protected by the charism of infallibility. Only the Pope and the Magisterium come with that guarantee. 🙂
 
So, in effect, since there is no direct teaching from the CCC and/or the Pope then interpretation of either theological interpretation is valid?

If you take the previous posted article and look at Q&A#11 it says that teachings such as oral stumulation as a part of foreplay are heretical, yet here is another article refuting such a point:
