South Boston priest charged with possession of child porn

This is terrible. The boston archdiocese needs to kick him out.

No, they shouldn’t. They’re doing everything just fine.

Also, after the news came on concerning Father Urbaniak, there was a short blurb about a Rabbi molesting a minor. The Priest having child pornography got nearly 10 minutes of air time, while the rabbi who molests a boy got maybe 25 seconds. Whats up with that?

I used to live around the corner from this church and went to mass there a few times.

I am so sick of this! Getting pretty freaking tired of it. . . .

I am thankful that, despite the pain, these awful men are being exposed.

Hopefully he will be able to tell the authorities where he got this vile stuff and those poor children can be rescued. Somewhere someone is making this stuff and they need to be brought to justice.

What difference does it make how the media treats the story? What difference does it make if the molester is a Priest or a Rabbi? Such behavior represents gross abuse of positions of trust, and deserve to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Nitpicking will get us nowhere nearer to a solution.

Yes? Would you rather have a pedophile (again, in general; we haven’t seen the evidence for this particular priest) confined to a monastery or convent by orders of his Ordinary, so he can’t get access to children; or would you rather laicize him and send him out into the world to do as he likes without supervision?

Somehow I’m thinking that if a priest were to be involved in such behavior, he would not necessarily be the most obedient to begin with, so how exactly would he be ‘confined’ to a monastery or convent? Not sure how these things work. Also, I’m assuming you mean one without internet access…

All priests sin, yes? Therefore all priests demonstrate at times a failure to obey the Commandments, as well as a failure to obey their Ordinary. But it is well-demonstrated that this particular sickness (pedophilia, ephebophilia, call it what you will) is present throughout our society – and that includes people who really are valid priests with a call from God to be priests.

So stick 'em in a monastery to provide a valuable service while at the same time barring access to children. By all means, make sure the abbot knows about the problem, but keep them where they can do good and not find additional victims.

As for how to confine them there, issue the orders and send them there. If they refuse to go, then they’re in open disobedience, so deal with them appropriately (including laicization if necessary). But, if they’re willing to accept the order, problem solved! Just don’t relax your vigilance.

We should pray for the victims and for those who will use this as an excuse to turn away from Christ and His Church.

The church keeps getting ripped on for their policy of moving priests that are known to have these kind of problems. The last thing they need to do is keep the guy around and move him somewhere else. He should be removed from the priesthood, period.

His computer was actively downloading child porn when the police arrived with a search warrant. IMO that and his confession make it pretty condemning for him.

You guys are forgetting that this priest is not part of the Archdiocese. He’s a Franciscan. He has lost all Faculties to celebrate the Sacraments and his superior isn’t even in America, he’s in Poland. Give us a break, the Archdiocese of Boston has been doing a lot and been jumping through plenty of hoops.

The gravity of the crime doesn’t change, however how it is portrayed to the public is changed greatly by those who want to demonize the Church. That was the point I was after.

Sorry if I upset you:imsorry:. I guess that the abuse cases make me really emotional. I also forgot the fact that they are now under the leadership of Cardinal O’ Malley, who seems to be a pretty good, no-nonsense Archbishop, unlike his predecessor, Cardinal Law.

The latest update on the story;

The case was handed over to Boston police detectives who finished their investigation by obtaining a search warrant of the South Boston rectory and Urbaniak’s computer. Clayman said that when police checked his computer, it was actively downloading child porn.

Clayman also said that Urbaniak confessed to detectives that he had child pornography on his computer and that he had images of children around the ages of 8 and 9 years old on his computer.

Aww, not Father Urbaniak! If its who I think it is I met him on a number of occasions. My own father is from Southie so I am very upset by this. Pray for Southie and pray for Father Urbaniak. Pray for our Church!

My mom was from Southie too. This would have upset her greatly. Prayers out.

At Christ’s second coming. Until then, weak men and women will give in to sin and temptation (and I am in that group as we all are). Until then we need to pray. And to work to get better. And to avoid temptation. And to carry on when we let God down.

Sorry if that sounds weak, but it is the only way I can wrap my head around this.
