Secular Priests can indeed “throw them out”.
Brother Jr. explains this really well but canon law is very different for diocesan priests vs. religious priests/brothers.
The diocese has no complete obligation to care for it’s priests if they are deemed inappropriate for service. Diocesan priests serve at the wish of the Bishop.
Monks/nuns cannot be “gotten rid of” in the same way, and there are cases where guilty religious are being maintained in monasteries or priories.
The diocese isn’t equipped to “keep an eye” on fallen priests. There is not mechanism for this.
In addition, I and I would imagine many others, don’t want their $ going to support child rapists.
Let these guys pay their price to society and then make their way in the world.
The fact that they remain priests is, of course, true but has no bearing on the dioceses’ need to support them in perpetuity.
The ministerial Church is better without them. God is showing us this and will continue to show us until we get our act together- much of this will depend on Bishops.
