The sheer magnitude of the sin/crime of child sex abuse. THis evil strikes at the heart of the relationship between the priest and his people- all priests and their people.

You know what makes me really sad. Because of these monsters a normal, good, and holy priest now can’t even hug a child- and I am sure they are told not to. It’'s tragic.

If I were a priest I would hold such anger towards these priest who have abused their power becoming a wolf among the sheep.

Lord Have Mercy on Us.

Blessed Mother watch over your Priests.

Well, advocating sins for them before they’re committed is pretty bad, Godfollower.

At any rate, we were talking about child sexual abuse which is absolutely inexcusable. In every case. Even if it only happens once. It cannot be permitted for it’s sheer evil.

Not to mention the trail of ruined lives, the cover-ups, the persecution of parents of the abused (!), the fact that the Catholic Church has become the laughing-stock of the Western world and the Billions, yes Billions, of dollars in penalties we’ve paid because we can’t seem to manage the sexual perversion among the clergy of our churches.

The whole thing is disgusting and ridiculous. It’s one thing to discover an evil man, but how many times must we go through this before people get the point, stop the ludicrous levels of denial and learn to deal with it? It’s way past time to get control of this problem.
WHAT DENIAL???

From the original article cited in Post No. 1:
In the wake of his arrest, the Archdiocese of Boston issued a statement saying Urbaniak is now on administrative leave and is banned from performing his religious duties as a priest.
“Urbaniak’s faculties have been suspended and he is not allowed to function as a priest in the Archdiocese,’’ the statement said. “The Archdiocese is fully cooperating with law enforcement. The Church prays for all those impacted by these events and is committed to providing for the pastoral care of the parish during this difficult time.’’
Urbaniak is a Franciscan priest whose religious superiors are based in Poland have been notified of his arrest, the archdiocese said.

IF he’s guilty, the Church has already done everything it possibly can about it. If he turns out not to be guilty, then presumably he’ll be returned to the ministry (though no one will ever trust him again, because falsely accused priests are always suspected anyway).

But child abusers tend not to get life in prison. So what do you do with them once they get out, since (in this discussion) they’re still priests?

Of course you don’t put him back in parish work. But sticking him in a monastery or convent for the rest of his life to minister to monks and nuns (who, by definition are not children and have no children) is not condoning future abuse. How do you not see that?

It’s about time that they did what they were supposed to do in Boston when it comes to sexual abuse. You can thank the laity for the improvement.

I TOLD YOU. Laicize them and get them off the payroll before they do it again.

Darn skippy you don’t. IT would be like putting a bank robber in charge of your bank account. Not a good idea and nobody with any sense would do it.

Baloney. We can’t afford to babysit these criminals and what’s more we don’t owe them anything. They rip us when they abuse kids too. They’re traitors and criminals who bite the hands that feed them. They disrespect everything and their conviction proves it. Gone is the best remedy, and the sooner the better.

BTW, your premise that we can just WAREHOUSE these criminals as if they were our coddled babies, with pay and benefits is absolutely OBNOXIOUS.

This amounts to putting them on permanent vacation with pay and benefits because they are criminals.

I’m not paying for it. Not one cent. Period. This is ludicrous.

And if that isn’t bad enough, what do you think a monastery is for? Is it really only a holding tank for people who can’t behave themselves decently and morally in public? Really?

All these sex scandals are starting to shake me a bit. It’s messed up.

Can the Church afford not to laicize this priest? Will the Church be accused of protecting this offender if he hurts another child in the future? Can they afford another lawsuit if this man offends again? How many more Catholics will leave the Catholic Faith should he repeat something like this? I really don’t see how the Church has a choice in this matter. If he’s convicted, he’ll be on a sexual offender registry for the rest of his life. Forgive him…yes, Pray for him…absolutely, laicize him…I’ll be surprised if they don’t. (pray for the victims too)

The particular priest the original article is talking about needs to go to trial and all that before much can be said, although I believe that he’s been suspended from service, and that’s proper in his case and in all others like this.

Your point can be made about all of our other convicted child abuse criminals though. We cannot afford it and we shouldn’t tolerate it. You’re right.

I’m a criminal defense attorney (and former prosecutor). Tell me about it …

I must be honest: I obey my ethics code and defend my clients with 100% effort, the same effort exercised when I was a prosecutor. Law enforcement generally does their job correctly and justice usually prevails, one way or another. I’m there to see that the U.S. Constitution and state laws are followed to the letter.
