The theory behind “Campaign Finance Reform” is that political debate is too important to allow the American people to participate.

Normally Vern and I don’t see eye to eye very much…
But I must admit to whole-hearted agreement on this one.

The presumption is that people w/o money or people with religious beliefs should not have political opinions and they sure as heck shouldn’t speak those opinions out loud or try to create change.

When I lived in Singapore, Dr. Catherine Lim wrote a mildly critical article about the prime minister. In the next issue of the Straits Times, there was a response – from the prime minister, himself, where he told her if she wanted to discuss politics, she should run for office.

At the time, I thought such a thing could never happen in America. But apparently McCain and Feingold have the same attitude – in fact, McCain once responded to criticism with almost exactly the same words.

Here is what worries me: Conservative slants dominate talk radio and some of the Fox news shows. Liberal slants dominate the major newspapers, along with ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and CNBC.
Given the failure of Air America [in Dallas, they just replaced Air America with a Catholic format], I really believe that this style of attack will be used to silence those conservatives. Libs would love nothing more than to say that Limbaugh’s opinions are equal to campaign donations… Their inability to get traction with radio will be a key motivator behind this.

The big double standard will be that you will not see any movement to include newspapers in the campaign financing discussions.

And the politicians believe it would be unthinkable for people to be allowed to say what they want on the air, and the people left free to choose who they want to listen to.

Different topic but what’s a good non-traditional church is Seattle that is welcoming to gays/lesbians?

Your question is so, so wrong for Catholic Answers Forums (CAF). 😃

The first mistake is the pairing of the words “good” and “non-traditional”. This is a site which values orthodoxy and tradition.

The second mistake grows out of the first. Because the Catholic Church views homosexual activity as a sin, it is opposed to a gay or lesbian identity which would promote such activity. While all Catholic churches will welcome persons with homosexual urges, an orthodox parish will not welcome persons for identifying themselves as gay or lesbian.

That said… Welcome to CAF! Please stick around, we can be a lot of fun and we normally are more helpful than I have been in this post.

that said, I want nothing to do with this site. Such a shame to have such discriminating criteria on who can worship God. Your outlook is fading fast and will eventually die out.
