Spies

I think many people are confused about what “spies” do. Take, for instance, the National Clandestine Service branch of the Central Intelligence Agency. Do they have “spies” running around with nifty gadgets, driving exotic cars, sleeping with exotic women? Yes and No. A CIA officer (yes, officer; not agent or spy. An agent is the person the officer is getting information from!) attempts to coerce and manipulate persons of interest into divulging information that would be of some value to the National Intelligence community, or implement some secretive technology to obtain some information for the Intelligence community. They don’t get to do the stuff that Bond movies are famous for. I would argue that driving a Aston Martin Vanquish, like the one in Casino Royale, would be more conspicuous than driving some indigenous mode of transport. The CIA also makes it clear that its officers cannot use sex as a method to obtain information. So that rules out the passionate sex with exotic women. So, really, Ian Fleming created a world of esiponage and intrigue that really doesn’t exist. Okay, MI5 and MI6 exist, as does the CIA, the Massad, the now extinct KGB, etc., but that doesn’t mean it is the same as a good Bond movie.
There’s no such thing as a so called “good” Bond movie.

So? Ronold Dahal who wrote charlie & The Chocolate Factory also wrote (so the story goes) the screen play for You Only Live Twice.
Erm…

You might want to talk to someone about getting yourself more grounded in reality.

If you are judging someone’s soul for the kind of fiction they write, well, no, I won’t say anything, but I’m sure a psychologist will. Seriously, get professional help.

Fiction or not, it’s still a sin that glorifies sin. Remember The Devils and The Last Temptation Of Christ? Both the critics and the church called foul on them and rightly so.

There is a reason it is rated PG 13 and used to be PG before the PG13 rating came out. It is not graphically bad. You should be much more concerned with the other films. Be thankful that the Bond films were not made graphically sexual and stuff requireing the R rating. Then you can complain. But until that happens, leave the series alone and let people enjoy it.

I saw “Casino Royale” two days ago - I think it’s one of the best so far; though my favourite Bond character is:

  • = 1. Jaws
  • = 1. Blofeld (with white moggy, of course :D)

I suppose your right. After all, we are still battling the sinful outbreak of secret agents who keep repeatedly saving the world while having sex with women. I’m sure if it weren’t for the Bond movies, these people would have certainly avoided premarital sex (although as a marginally important sidenote, the world would not exist).

Seriously, it’s known as entertainment. What’s entertaining about a bunch of people sitting around not doing anything? Nothing. So clever writers invent all sorts of fictional imaginary places to entertain them. People know it’s just pretend though. Well, except for every other religion besides christianity in which some ancient people just made stuff up and people believed it, but that’s sort of another story.

Never seen or heard of it.

All I was trying to say earlier is that there is good to this man.
