Please pray for me. I really believe I’m experiencing a spiritual attack.

I’ve been having such trouble praying, though I go almost every night for Adoration. I attend Mass, go to confession, receive Holy Communion, etc. As I’ve been unemployed, I’ve been volunteering for a spiritual cause. And I’ve been praying a lot for myself and for others.

I’ve prayed for myself because, as many of you know, my life fell to pieces. My boyfriend left me, I lost my job, and I left my husband all within the space of 20 months. (sort of descending order, there!)

I’ve prayed for my brother, who is ill, for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for friends who are priests, for friends at the foundation I’m volunteering at, for my uncle who is dying, and for many here on this list.

As I mentioned, I’m having trouble praying. I went to a healing Mass last night and left early, rather than wait. I also stumble over words when praying. I’ve been spending less and less time at adoration. I feel darkness around me. And even though I’m trying very hard to make amends for having sinned so grievously these past months and for all my life, everything is still falling apart. I truly feel tormented. It’s not just that I didn’t get a job I thought I had in the bag (though that is part of it), I definitely feel like something is trying to harm me.

I’m making a conscious effort to be kind to people. I really am. Last night, I asked a woman who was walking home from Adoration if she wanted a lift. She didn’t really speak English and I admit, my Spanish is poor so I didn’t even try. But she was an older woman and this chapel is in a less than great neighborhood. There was a shooting around the corner from the chapel the over the weekend. Anyway, the woman seemed more afraid of me than the walk home. I suppose she didn’t really need one or felt perfectly comfortable walking. She probably does it all the time. I suppose, it could have been she didn’t have the ability to say what she wanted to convey to me. She wasn’t impolite, but there was a look on her face that seemed fearful.

Yesterday, as I was praying, I felt that someone tapped me on the shoulder. There was a wind and a hard tap on my shoulder. I thought, at first, something fell on me, as my father is doing construction. But, no. He wasn’t upstairs and there was nothing around me. I thought, too, that maybe it was a bug. But it definitely felt like a cold wind and a tap on my shoulder.

I’ve been tempted by psychics and have engaged them. (I’ve confessed these sins.) But, I’m still tempted daily to consult with them.

I’ve had a car accident this summer. I chalked it up to my having still been in a state of being stunned after the break up. But, I had another near miss at an intersection recently following adoration. I was on my way home, it was near midnight, possibly even later than midnight, when I came to an intersection. A black car doing about 80 (on city streets–probably a teenager) came tearing through the intersection, blowing a red light. Had I been a few seconds ahead, I’d be dead now. I know the Blessed Mother was looking out for me that night. It was close.

I am not the kind of person to state these sorts of things lightly. I’m really afraid of being labeled as mentally unstable. I’m not. But I have to say, I have felt strange presences around me. Now, I appeal for help with discernment and for prayers from any priests who may read this post.

I hesitate to ask for prayers from lay people, as I’ve heard that when someone prays for a person under spiritual attack, that person, too, opens themselves up. That is the last thing I want on my conscience right now!

Sorry for such a long, disorganized post. I’m really confused by all of this. I’m still willing to accept that all of this is simply coincidental, but on the chance that it’s not, I need to ask for help. Do you think I should be worried?

Thank you for any and all comments, esp. regarding discernment.

Praying for you my friend…

" Our Lady, Help of Christians "

Mary, powerful Virgin, you are the mighty and glorious protector of the Church. You are the marvelous help of Christians. You are awe-inspiring as an army in battle array. In the midst of our anguish, struggle, and distress, defend us from the power of the enemy, and at the hour of our death receive our soul in heaven.

It has the signs of a spiritual attack. Be aware that our own faults and sins can attract such attacks. The evil one is an opportunist, and times everything to coincide with our weakest moments. He is tempting you with psychics, who only open the door to worse attacks. The future is God’s, and is not ours to know. Also know that the devil is a coward and can be made to flee. To begin, I would suggest that you Google “catholic spiritual warfare prayer” and read through a few of them. There will be one which speaks to you. Pray it fervently, as such prayers are very powerful. Invoke the protection of Saint Michael the Archangel. Consult your priest as well regarding the spiritual aspect of all this. You might also consider Catholic, or at least Christian counseling, since you have suffered much. Your parish, or your Archdiocese will have the information you need. Forget secular counselors - they will advise you to drink, use drugs or have an affair. I am praying for you.

Holy Michael Archangel, defend us in the day of battle;
be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of
the devil.---- May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, Prince of the heavenly host, by the power
of God thrust down to hell Satan and all wicked spirits,
who under through the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

Done, done, and done. And I only have myself to blame. No secular counselor ever suggested I should do any of it!

Thank you for your prayers. I thought it seemed to have some of the hallmarks of an attack. I’m definitely going to try to find some help. I do worry that the priest, though, might think I’m a crackpot. It’s been suggested by some priests that I’ve asked, one who is a dear friend and knows many of the intimate details of my problem, suggested it’s just my suddenly having to endure the effects of my marriage’s demise (for good or for bad), which I didn’t have to confront before, as I was in another relationship.

One priest that I’ve been in contact with via the foundation I’m volunteering for is an exorcist, and I’m eagerly awaiting his response and his thoughts on the matter, too.

Best,
joleen

There is another CAF member who found that his wife had not been truthful about her past. A counselor advised him to have an affair to even it up! Still, Christian counselors have a distinct moral foundation from which to offer advice. Speak with as many Priests as you can, since they are a storehouse of God’s wisdom. But, to find peace, we also need to abandon ourselves to Divine providence. The Lord knows what we need before we ask.

Here is a compact book (100 pages) which I unhesitatingly recommend: Searching for and Maintaining Peace by Fr. Jacques Philippe. It can change your life.

Christ’s peace be with you.

Praying for you :signofcross:

Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur Nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Sancte Michael Archangele,
defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.
Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur:
tuque, Princeps militiae Caelestis,
satanam aliosque spiritus malignos,
qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo,
divina virtute in infernum detrude.
Amen.

St Michael please protect and intercede for our sister and ask Angels of God to surround her.
Lord fully claim our sister as Your own and inspire her to repeatedly commit herself to You in quiet and humble trust.

Padre Pio’s words Courage, do not be afraid of Lucifer’s anger. Temptations, discouragement and unrest are the wares offered by the enemy. Remember this: if the devil makes noise it is a sign that he is still outside and not yet within. That which must terrify us is his peace and concord with the human soul.

Hang in there!

I would agree with what some have suggested, that when we are currently or very recently involved in unholy stuff, demons are near.

I recall from my own past, days when I was drinking, chasing sexual affairs, using Tarot cards, etc., I often found myself sad and depressed beyond belief at the end of the day. Looking back, I believe I was easy prey since I insisted on seeking my own “salvation” in booze, women, whatever.

But you have already taken the most important step and called out to God. The Devil may be hearing your doubts and taking one more shot at keeping you away from God.

Please stay away from the psychics, etc. While I don’t belive all psychics are inherently evil (many work for the police), I imagine it’s not something a Christian should turn to. If nothing else, it is a sign of still considering Earthly and occult solutions and not trusting the Lord. Hang in there.

Ignore the dark voice. As others have pointed out, feelings aren’t everything; you also have thought, decision, faith and hope! Pray for mercy. Pray for strength and pray for FAITH.

I’m praying for you too.

Having visited psychics you may unwittingly have left yourself open to attack from evil spirits. There may even be some past family involvement with the occult. Whatever, I suggest you pray the following prayer for your protection.

Heavenly Father, I come before you with a humble, sincere and repentant heart seeking forgiveness and healing for opening my spirit to occult influences, knowingly or unknowingly in the past.
I place myself now under the cross of Jesus Christ and cover myself with His Precious Blood.
I surround myself with the light of Christ and claim in the name of Jesus of Nazareth that nothing shall interfere with the Lord’s plan being accomplished in my life.
I put on God’s armour to resist the devil’s tactics.
I stand my ground with Truth buckled around my waist and with Integrity for a breastplate.
I carry the shield of Faith to put out the burning arrows of the evil one.
I accept salvation from God to be my helmet and receive the Word of God from the Holy Spirit to use as a sword.
Heavenly Father, please show me any way that Satan has taken hold of my life.
I renounce those ways now and place them under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
In the Name of Jesus, I reject the seductive lure of evil in all its forms and refuse to let sin have dominion over me.
I reject Satan and all his works and empty promises.
Heavenly Father, I ask for forgiveness for myself, my friends, relatives and ancestors for calling upon powers that set themselves up against Jesus Christ.
I renounce all openness to the occult, all false worship and all benefits from magical arts.
I renounce every power, apart from God, and every form of worship that does not offer true honour to Jesus Christ.
I specifically renounce___________
*(Examples: astrology, fortune telling, crystals, tarot cards, Ouija boards, or any occult games etc.) *
In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, I break any curses that may be coming against me or my family, and stop the transmission of those curses through my ancestry.
In the name of Jesus of Nazareth, I bind you spirit of __________________
*(Ask the Lord to reveal the name; examples: pride, anger, lust, envy, greed, gluttony, sloth, or its negative fruits such as fear, insecurity, unforgiveness, illness, trauma, etc.) *
I bind you away from me now in Jesus’ name.
Lord Jesus, fill me with Your love to replace the fear, fill me with Your strength to replace the weakness, etc.
*(After each command, ask the Lord to fill you with the virtue or the positive opposite of the negativity you removed: fear-love, illness-health, lust-purity, weakness-strength, etc.) *
Loving Father, let the cleansing, healing waters of my baptism flow back through the generations to purify my family line of contamination.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for setting me free.
I claim Your victory on my behalf.
Amen.
