“Preach the Gospel at all times; when necessary use words!” - St Francis of Assisi

A Saint is nothing but one who is going/is in heaven.

It does not mean that they were infalliable in their beliefs.
It just means their hunger for Almighty God was insatiable to death, and that they did nothing but act as a slave to the Lord, our God.

One cannot label saints as Protestant , Catholic, Hindu, but they can label them as Gods Child.

There is nothing holding one back from following the lord, no matter what.

And i would like to ask you guys to quit being so mean, i mean jeez, everyone has their good side and bad side, there is no excuse to call anyone on this forum Pitiful or criticizing them at all.

May the Grace of the Lord flow through you all.

Do you knwo whether God will not intervene to bring a soul to saving faith in Christ who does not know Christ through no fault of their own? No… you do not, and you are unwise to judge them since this is the case. Do you suppose that those whom Mother Therese ministered to (regardless of their religion) could look at the nuns that worked so hard for them and NOT know that these holy women were Christians? You, (and those like you) feel that you must “witness” to others, but (in my own experience) neglect the physical needs of those around you, which, (IMHO) makes you about like those who crossed to the other side of the road to pass the man left for dead because he is not the same faith as you. Mother Therese was a good Samaritan every day of her ministry.

St. Francis of Assisi was right. “Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary use words.”
Pax tecum,
Who said anything about neglecting people’s physical needs and I don’t appreciate you saying I’m like the man who passed the man left for dead on the road. You don’t know me and obviously you don’t understand what I’m trying to get across either. I’m obviously wasting my time.

… How could she say she converts people to be better Muslims, Hindus. etc…
Hi 4given,

I must admit; those quotes are really damaging to Mother Theresa’s character. I have no idea is she really said them or not… but I’ll take your word for it.

I’m guessing Mother Theresa was dealing with a lot of illiterate people who couldn’t read the gospel, so she may have felt is was no use to preach the gospel because they may not have taken her word for it. I know in these forums non-Christians can be so stubborn, even when plenty of evidence is given to them that Jesus Christ is God. Anyway…

So, she may have felt it was best to live a life a love. Afterall, if you live in love, then you live in God and God lives in you (see 1 John 4:16).

I agree that letting people pray to their false gods is wrong; But sometimes, there is nothing you can do about it, except set an example. I’m sure Mother Theresa didn’t pray to those false gods. Church Militant was right in their post above; Like St Francis of Assisi said, “Preach the gospel always. When necessary, use words.” Perhaps it would please you more if Mother Theresa didn’t say anything at all.

Taking quotes from a clearly anti-Catholic site with an agenda is hardly “proof” of anything. The bias on the site is so obvious I wonder you would think anyone thinking person could take it seriously. :whacky:
If she made those statements as quoted, she was WRONG. If you don’t want to believe she said them, fine.

I always cringe when Catholics hold up Mother Theresa so highly as an example of holiness.
Well that speaks volumes about you but not a thing regarding Mother Teresa.
OP:
If she was so holy, why did she not share the gospel with dying people but instead told them to pray to their own gods?
This is truly pathetic.
op:
Don’t try to convince me that Protestants that go to the world and preach the gospel of Christ as it’s revealed in Scripture pales in comparison to a woman who told dying people to pray to their false gods.
No comparisons are necessary - her life stands as a testimony to Christ except for blinded by anger, jealousy and an agenda.
op:
And there are plenty of Protestants who died for their faith during the inquisitions.
Im sure that is relevant somehow, but just how escapes me. Do you really need to dig back to the Inquisition to find a Protestant who died for their faith?
op:
And plenty of missionaries that have lost their lives, I’m sure, to take the gospel to the world. I’m sorry but that’s how I see it.
Are you sure you’re sure? Because you don’t sound sure - you sound angry and uninformed.

You’re not getting it. People who worked with her are quoting her as saying these unscriptural things. And while, it’s commendable that she met physical needs in caring for the poor, that’s no excuse for what she told those people. Try as you might to get around it.
Someone named “Ann” apparently has been quoted by the  Infamous (& Probably Nonexistent) Mary Ann Collins as saying that Mother Theresa said something.
Now, I don’t know what she said. And, although you won’t admit it, you don’t know what she said. In fact, you don’t know whether “Ann” is even a real person.
The one thing we all know around here, is that “Mary Ann Collins” is a will-o-the-wisp who hates Catholics. If she tells me the sun is shining at noonday, I will take my strongest flashlight…
I may not know a lot of things, but I know hearsay when it jumps up & bites me, and this isn’t even 2nd hand; it’s at least 4th hand from an unreliable source.
If she didn’t accept and believe the gospel as revealed in Scripure, she was turned away. And if she did accept it, how could she have told those people to pray to false gods? How could she say she converts people to be better Muslims, Hindus. etc. and how could she even insinuate they could be saved by continuing their beleif in their false gods? Tha’t’s not the gospel that Jesus’ sent His followers and after them, us, to preach to the world. Somethings very wrong there, like it or not.
Again, how do you know what she said, in what context?
No, I do not expect any sympathy or support on a Catholic forum…expect from any other Protestants that may be here.
I :crying: :crying: :crying: feel like I’m on ignore!!!

Okay, thanks for your your possible explanation of her actions. I still think she was wrong, though.

The irony. You presume to judge Mother Theresa, whom you didn’t know. Yet, you get hot and bothered when someone calls to question your motives? Interesting indeed.

If I “don’t want to believe she said them”? Why would I? The link states explicitly that SISTER ANN, not MOTHER THERESA said them.

Sorry, I thought you were Catholic. 🙂 Can you tell us in what kind of context it would be acceptable to answer a dying person who asks what they should do with “pray to your gods?”

If the mods don’t like my wording, saying it’s pitiful, let them discipline me. TYVM.
Sorry if i offended you…
I just dont see the joy in offending someone else.
I was just speaking from my own experience.

Jesus did say love your neighbor as yourself… i dont know, maybe you like to be called pitiful, but im sure most people here dont?

And I wasn’t trying to take place as the Forum Disciplinary, was just voicing my opinion, which is what forums are for, arent they?

God be with you.

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’
Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’
And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’
Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.’
Then they will answer and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?’ He will answer them, ‘Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.’
And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
Learn your Gospel Son.

Mother Theresa * lived the Gospel.*.
  1. “Whoever would be first among you must be slave of all” (Mk10: 44). Jesus’ words to his disciples that have just rung out in this Square show us the way to evangelical “greatness”. It is the way walked by Christ himself that took him to the Cross: a journey of love and service that overturns all human logic. To be the servant of all!

You’re not paying attention! Clearly Zooey is calling into question the credibility of this source, and pointing out that these were not the words of Mother Theresa, but Sister Ann. I don’t know how you could possibly take from Zooey’s quote that he believes it is acceptable to pray to other gods unless you are intentionally ignoring the responses on the board.

Grace and Peace 4given,

From what I’ve read I’d have to agree with you on this 4given and I’m Roman Catholic. It would appear on first blush that MotherTheresa Didn’t Preach the Gospel but a form of Syncretism. This kind of thing was all too popular under Pope John Paul II.

Pax

I find it interesting that certain people criticize her as in the OP while others of a different stripe criticize her for coercing the dying to be Baptized. Hmmm… something’s fishy…

Mother Theresa always preached the Gospel. But, like St. Francis, she only used words when necessary

What? Apparently you aren’t paying attention either. Did you take the time to notice that this was not Mother Theresa, but a mysterious Sister Ann who made this statement?
