I assume that you then believe that Christ was a “door”, and a "vine’ and a “sheep gate”. In Christian love, Ralph.
Look Ralphy I know where you’re coming from are coming from. It’s a hard teaching -thousands walked away then and millions (yourself included) have walked away now. It is a lot easier to ignore all who went before you and claim personal knowledge of a book gives you all the answers. Jumping in on you’re on your own does make it very difficult to determine when Christ is speaking figuratively and when he was speaking literally. Fortunately Christ entrusted his Church to give us theTruth. A Church that ,ironically enough ,gave you the book that you have twisted nearly beyond comprehension

So as far as you are concerned, you are actually eating real flesh, and drinking real blood, right. Where does this supply come from, and is it kept in a church in a little cupboard for days on end, and still be good to eat. The point is that God is spirit, and we worship him in spirit and in truth. When He said that He was the true bread that came down from heaven, why did they not start eating Him then. The RCC takes this to be the center of their belief, as the only way to receive Christ. I did belong to the RCC one time, but came out from there when I read the Bible, and found out the truth as it it written in the Bible. In christian love, Ralph.
Not hard to understand unless you want to limit God to words printed on paper.

And we assume that you think he was speaking symbolically when he said he would die and rise?

I really don’ like to keep running through this statement again, but I must. Do you know who belongs to the church of Christ. In christian love, Ralph.

Only Catholics have the fullness of truth. You walked away from that and settled for a pale shadow of the truth. You are like the man in Plato’s cave-seeing the world only as shadows on the wall when you could turn around and see the world in living color and be able to hold our Lord and Savior in your hands and consume his body-which I will be doing about 45 minutes from now

Ralphy claims that he was ‘once a Catholic’. So let’s be extra kind to him and help him to realize where he went wrong in either rejecting a faith which he knew, or being tricked into accepting error instead because he didn’t know his Catholic faith to begin with.

I hope it’s the latter, Ralphy. You have a much better chance of finding truth if you’ve been deceived because you didn’t know the truth, than if you knew but decided that something ‘else’ met your personal needs ‘better.’

God bless.

I hope the latter also. It would be difficult to claim invincible ignorance when you possed the truth and let your ego drive you away from it

You did not answer my question as to who belongs to the church. In christian love, Ralph.

Is that RC or the “universal” catholic. In Christian love, ralph.

From your perspective then, we all cannot simultaneously be temples of the Holy Ghost. From where do all those little parts of the Holy Ghost come?

If you were Catholic, how can you so misunderstand the Eucharist? Your belief would have Jesus celebrating the last supper as little more than a meal with Godly fellowship. His words mean something. They weren’t carefully written down in the Gospels to simply record a meal.

The Roman Catholic Church of course. ButT there is no other Church although there are lots of denominations outside the Church- thousand and thousand last time I checked all claiming be guided by the same book , all clinging to different versions of the truth

The host becomes the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ. The wine also becomes the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ. He is fully present in both species. The process is called “transubstantiation” - the substance of bread and wine are changed into the substance of flesh and blood which the accidents (taste, smell, appearance, etc.) remain.
The point is that God is spirit, and we worship him in spirit and in truth. When He said that He was the true bread that came down from heaven, why did they not start eating Him then.
They did, ralphy. Jesus held his own flesh and blood in His hands, and when He offered it to them, the apostles ate and drank.
The RCC takes this to be the center of their belief, as the only way to receive Christ.
False. “Receiving” has more than one meaning, doesn’t it?
I did belong to the RCC one time, but came out from there when I read the Bible, and found out the truth as it it written in the Bible. In christian love, Ralph.
No, ralphy, you left the Catholic Church when you could not understand (or accept) the theology that the Church has taught from the days of the Apostles and their successors, the Early Church Fathers.

The “gospel” that you have accepted in place of the truth is simplistic, watered down, and incomplete - but it satisfies because it is small enough that you can understand it.

'zactly.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of different issues which have a multitude of different interpretations, leading to over 30,000 Christian denominations. With each topic there’s possibly dozens of different understandings, yet each can be “backed up” with Scripture.
  • Baptism
  • Rapture
  • Tongues (some believe others are not saved if they don’t speak in tongues)
  • Divorce
  • Abortion
  • Homosexuality
  • When to celebrate the Lord’s Day
  • Once saved, always saved
  • Music or no music (Singing or no singing)
  • Women pastors, no women pastors
  • Hell, or no hell
  • The Eucharist (Communion)
  • Sola scriptura/private interpretation
  • Ordination
  • Trinity vs. Unitarianism
  • Death/Soul Sleep
  • Church leadership, or no leadership
  • Head coverings or no head coverings
  • Health and wealth gospel
  • Drinking allowed, drinking not allowed)
  • Attend weekly services, don’t have to go to Church
  • Judge others, don’t judge others
  • What’s a sin, what is not a sin
  • Charity or no charity (help one another or let them help
  • themselves)
  • Is God‘s Holy Name Jehovah
  • Predestination

You did not answer my question as to who belongs to the church. In christian love, Ralph.
All who are properly baptized may rightly claim the name of “Christian” and are in communion with the Catholic Church to one degree or another.

I hope the latter also. It would be difficult to claim invincible ignorance when you possed the truth and let your ego drive you away from it
Based on the abysmal catechesis given by our church I would have to assume that ralphy was quite ignorant of the faith he left.

In fact, I suspect if you we asked ralphy what the Immaculate Conception is, he’d give the wrong answer. (Incidentally, if we asked the majority of Joe-Catholics-in-the-pews they’d give the wrong answer as well. :sad_yes: Our church has done a very poor job of feeding its flock with the nourishing Truths of the Faith.)

Obviously, you are not aware that there are no more sacrifices for sin, so why does the RCC continue doing it. Why not just look into the Bible and find the truth. In Christian love, Ralph.
You are correct that the bloody sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross is the only efficacious offering for the eternal consequences of sin but that does not mean sacrifices cannot be offered on altars for other reasons besides sin. The bread and wine offered in sacrifice by Catholic priests on the table of the Lord at the Lord’s supper assemblies is a thanksgiving offering, like the bread and wine that Melchizedek, a priest of the Lord, offered in thanksgiving for Abraham’s victory over his enemies. (Genesis 14:18) That’s the reason it has been called the Eucharist (Greek for thanksgiving) from the beginning. This is in line with the words of the psalmist:
What shall I render to the LORD for all his bounty to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD. (Psalm 116:12-13)
The thanksgiving sacrifice of bread and wine offered by Catholic priests at the Lord’s supper assemblies is what the Gospel writer had in mind when he presented these words of Jesus Christ:
So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24)
It seems rather pointless for Matthew to mention this particular saying of Jesus Christ about altars, if all altars and sacrificial gifts were made completely superfluous by His death on the Cross so many years before, wouldn’t it?

I once belong in a Protestant church, everytime we celebrate the Lord Supper, we’re told that this is only a symbol, something to remember the day of the Lord, kind of like Christmas with less food and no eggnog. Till this day I can’t understand what’s the point of the Lord’s supper in a Protestant’s mind.
