Quote by Lisdogan: “If you hear and reject, you will be refused - unless God in His determination wills otherwise (not many people seem to give Him credit for being able to make that decision, taking it rather upon themselves” end quote

Thank you for your instruction, which gives one pause for thought.
I hope I made my point. Sometimes I write in circles and never get to the point.

Oh,I shall return,In the meantime,I do have a question.

How can sinful men forgive sinners
Not by their own authority, but by Jesus’ authority. “And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained,’” John 20:21. Notice the part where Jesus breathes on his Apostles to endow them with the Holy Spirit in a special way. That is the source of their power to forgive sins. It is by God’s power, not man’s power, that priests forgive sins. It isn’t necessary for the priest himself to be sinless, since it isn’t his authority or power, but God’s authority and power, which is involved.

I don’t think so:tsktsk: you haven’t answered any of those questions you said you would… doesn’t give me that warm fuzzy feeling about your honesty.

I was thinking the other day about how much this type of behavior begins to annoy everyone, but then… I became thankful for folks like N2. Because without people acting in ways like this without being able to stand behind their accusations it just continues to strengthen the bond between us CAF Catholics and mother Church. Even though for some of the great minds here at CAF it’s just the same ol–same ol, for others like myself we need to see these things again to help it stick or make us use our minds to logically figure it out, and perhaps for others it’s the first time for seeing these arguments against the CC get dismantled. Whatever the situation, many of us need people like N2 to help us grow in our faith.

So… a big thankyou goes out to N2 for helping make me and so many others… really really really Catholic!!! 👍

I don’t know. Ask our Lord and Savior! He’s the one that introduced this, so who am I to question him.

BTW, we’re still waiting on an answer (as opposed to more questions) on John chapter 20.

N2thelight,

I’d also like an answer to this question:
5 ****** then whoever is guilty in any of these cases shall confess the sin he has incurred,*** 6 ****** and as his sin offering for the sin he has committed he shall bring to the LORD a female animal from the flock, a ewe lamb or a she-goat. The priest shall then make atonement for his sin.****** 7 ****** "If, however, he cannot afford an animal of the flock, he shall bring to the LORD as the sin offering for his sin two turtledoves or two pigeons, one for a sin offering and the other for a holocaust.****** 8 ****** He shall bring them to the priest, who shall offer the one for the sin offering first. Snapping its head loose at the neck, yet without breaking it off completely,****** 9 ****** he shall sprinkle some of the blood of the sin offering against the side of the altar. The rest of the blood shall be squeezed out against the base of the altar. Such is the offering for sin.****** 10 ****** The other bird shall be offered as a holocaust in the usual way. Thus the priest shall make atonement for the sin the man committed, and it will be forgiven***.

How can sinful men forgive sinners*
Who forgave the Israelites sins in the above verses of Leviticus?:hmmm:

“If you hear and reject, you will be refused - unless God in His determination wills otherwise (not many people seem to give Him credit for being able to make that decision, taking it rather upon themselves”
Do you think that God saves people that don’t want to be saved?

How can sinful men forgive sinners
Phil 4:13-14
13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

The only way we do any of the things He commands - grace. 👍

How can sinful men forgive sinners
Well, the apostles were clearly sinful men. Scripture tells us that even the most pious of us sins seven times a day. Yet, Jesus assured them that who’s ever sins they forgave, WOULD BE forgiven. So either sinful men CAN forgive sins or Jesus is a liar.

Which is it?

Not a chance, N2. Not a chance.

And I encourage EVERYONE in this thread to not answer any more of N2’s questions until he answers the question that’s been posed to him several times, both on this thread and in others:

Where in the Bible does the Bible tell us:
  • what belongs in the Bible?
  • how to determine what belongs in the Bible?
  • that we need a Bible?

Do you think that God saves people that don’t want to be saved?
Caution: I do not know what CCC teaches on this! So don’t thump on me for expressing an opinion, anyone, please.

Of course, because God can do whatsoever He wills.

Of course, because some people who think they don’t want to be saved, are not smart enough to make the right decision.

Of course, because, God knows better than any individual what is best for that individual.

Of course, because moral non-Christians deserve saving more than most, even if they don’t want - or don’t expect (they sometimes get confused) - to be saved.

Of course, because there will be very very very few human spirits which are separated from God, and there has to be a better reason than reluctance on the part of the individual.

… and how can sinful men write a book that is so central to your faith?

I supose the same God who inspired sinful men to write the books of the Holy Bible CAN empower sinful men to forgive sins. Are you, suddenly, trying to limit the Almighty God?

Remember, God created us with a free will and He respects that free will and will not force Himself on somebody who does not want Him.

I would agree that God can do anything he wants to… not “thumping” here, just logically reasoning out this idea would tell me that for God to go against our desires to reject him would eliminate the purpose of our free will, which God also gave us.

Yes God desires that we all follow his teachings, and for those that don’t hear his message he’s still imprinted a desire to do good (but this wouldn’t be someone choosing not to be saved as guanophore stated)… but if he forced us to obey his commands and predestined everyone to heaven than the whole Christian faith just seems to become irrelevant.

just curious… why do you believe that almost all human spirits will be with God?

Is this part Scripture based? Or is this simply your opinion?

Because Scripture seems to indicate the opposite.

Actually the Word interprets itself, all you need is eyes too see
If this is true, than how can two people come to opposing thoughts on the Scripture.

Just get a group of Christians discuss whether Baptism is necessary for Salvation, and your statement above will be proven false.

BTW, I sure would like an answer to my questions on John 20 and Leviticus.
