SPLIT: What did Christ teach that wasn't written,and if it wasn't written how can you be sure He taught it?

Let me ask this.does the Catechism,explain scripture or are they traditions or both?
Both. The same fact can be taught both by an inspired writer in writing (Scripture) and by an Apostle verbally (Tradition). The Catechism states the Church teaching regarding the whole deposit of faith, not just one part of it or the other.
 
John 14:25-26

Yes, but nothing of Jesus as the Man was written already when Jesus was walking on the Earth except that which had been prophesied about Him in the OT. It only stands to reason that the NT would be written. And it only stands to reason that the only things included in the Bible were those things given to the Church by the Holy Spirit in the 3rd century. Not everything that was written could be included, because many things written were not inspired by the Holy Spirit. He gave to us what was absolute Truth, and what was needed. And He continues to work in our lives, in the world and in His Church since then. He confirms whether it is Truth by telling us to search the Scriptures of both OT and NT and by the Traditions of the Catholic Church. Anything that goes against these things is not accepted as truth. That is why prophesies are not accepted by the Church as truth unless they come to pass.

I don’t know whether this was actually relevant to the entire question of this thread. I just thought it was relevant to the posts on the last pages.

Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples,*** 2 *** saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat on the chair of Moses.*** 3 ****** Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you***, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice.

Well, it would be good to explain this about Catholicism:

Catholics believe that God has revealed Himself to the world through His Body, and that His teachings are embodied in three important and irreplaceable components: Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Sacred Magisterium.

Sacred Scripture is obvious as the written Word of God, and Sacred Tradition is the oral Word of God. Both came to completion in Christ, and neither of these are added to or taken away from.

The Sacred Magisterium, then, is the teaching office of the Church (the Pope and the bishops of the world in communion with the body of Christ), and faithfully interprets both Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture by the power of the Holy Spirit.

With that being said, the Catechism of the Catholic Church is a synthesis of Church teachings as derived from all the three.

So the Catechism covers it all. :]

You are missing the point of this verse,this is basically a dispute between two people,with the Church simply being an arbritraitor,its not a biblical matter,rather a legal one.

Matthew 18:17 “And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.”

This is Christ teaching on matters between members of the body of Christ. Those outside the body of Christ are not part of this instruction. When this happens you set yourself apart from that person, and if it is your blood brother, you do the same. Don’t treat that person as an enemy, but as a brother that you just don’t care to be around, until the matter is tended to.

Any understanding of the Trinity as we have it today. The very fact that the Niceno-Constantinopalitan Creed speaks of the Holy Spirit as “eternally begotten of the Father and the Son” is solely found in Sacred Tradition.

Granted, Scripture speaks very much of the person of the Holy Spirit; yet in Sacred Tradition is He made clear.

This is the thing: Christ did not hand you a book. He did not hand the Apostles a book, nor did He hand one to the disciples.

It was word. In fact, as St. Paul tells Timothy,

“Follow the pattern of the sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus; guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us”.

2 Timothy 1:13-14

“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.”

2 Timothy 2:1-2

The teachings of Christ, and therefore the Apostles (cf. St. Luke 10:16), were preserved in word of mouth, and also by letter. The letters themselves are not complete (which is why St. Paul does not go on to write what exactly those things he wanted St. Timothy to preserve; it was already understood by St. Timothy), which is completely fine!

“So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter.”

2 Thessalonians 2:15

Thankfully, the Holy Spirit remained with St. Paul, St. Timothy, and the rest of the Apostles and bishops of the Church so that their word would be truth because it was “entrusted to them by the Holy Spirit who dwells” within.

Thus the Word of God is written and oral, and that’s how God intended it! It’s so wonderful that He has the power to do such things through man; we mustn’t limit Him to a book.

Christ is the complete Word of God, and He did not hand the Apostles books. In the beginning was not a book, it was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. That word was Jesus Christ, and Christ is not limited to four books of the Bible.

In fact, two of the Gospels were not written by Apostles at all, and were in fact written by people who had not met Christ during His earthly ministry.

How did St. Mark and St. Luke write the Gospels then? They *listened *to the Apostles; Mark was a companion of St. Peter, and St. Luke was a companion of St. Paul.

Christ preached for three years: do you honestly think that everything He spoke has been included in the Gospels? Why do we even have Paul’s, Peter’s, and John’s writings as part of the New Testament then?

You still compeletely ignored the fact that St. Paul, the Apostle, wrote that the teachings that would be adhered to were both in letter and by word of mouth, and that both were of equal authority.

Would Peter be talking against the tradition in Thessalonians that Paul implies is good? And where does the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church contradict God?

These are not quotes they are scriptures from the KJV

The purpose of which was to show the importance of that which is written verses the traditions of men.

What have I ignored? These verses play a part of my last two post’s

You are missing the point of this verse,this is basically a dispute between two people,with the Church simply being an arbritraitor,its not a biblical matter,rather a legal one.
If its a legal matter only, then how can you exclude them from the Covenant (treat as a tax-collector or Gentile… people outside the Covenant)?
Matthew 18:17 “And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.”
This is Christ teaching on matters between members of the body of Christ. Those outside the body of Christ are not part of this instruction. When this happens you set yourself apart from that person, and if it is your blood brother, you do the same. Don’t treat that person as an enemy, but as a brother that you just don’t care to be around, until the matter is tended to.
But what gives the Church the authority to exclude them? Or the better and more accurate question is… “WHO gives the Church authority”?
