God bless you my brother.

Recently a professor named Dr. Beckwith returned to the Church after many years of seperation. He also received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. rightreason.ektopos.com/archives/2007/05/my_return_to_th.html

May your walk with Christ bring you to the same conclusion,
Subrosa
This morning I wrote a letter to that priest. If God wants me to come back to the catholic church I shall go to confession an d comunion and I will join a church for fellowship. I said also that I have never understood the catholic faith that is why I have been falling away.

I have ordered another book and I want to read it after What catholics really believe, now is Catholicism and Fundamentalism that interest me. I see catholicism different from what I thought it was twenty years ago.

You are in a good place to learn, paisano. In the time I have spent here I have increased my knowledge of the faith many times over. Along with that, I have increased my faith in God many times over. It is not that long ago that I was in the same place as you are today.

This same scenario has occured many times with many of the visitors here.

Stay and learn.

I have sent another letter this morning to that priest. I am thinking to call him and make an appointement for my confession (sacrament of reconciliation). Tonight I am going to write to him again and I am going to confirm it. I am ready!

Why confess to a priest?

Because I find it in the New Testament…

Reconciliation (Confession):Leviticus. 5:4-6; 19:21-22 (even under the Old Covenant, God used priests to forgive and atone for the sins of others.). Matthew 3:6,18:18, 9:6 & 8, Mark 2:7, John 20:21-23, Acts 19:18, 2nd Corinthians 5:18-19, James 5:16, 1st John 1:9-10.

I am going to start to look for a church. I have got one in mind is the catholic cathedral here in Portsmouth. I want to go along, I want to attend a mass after all these years. I am member of a catholic club Saint Francis catholic ramblers. But I want full comunion now like it was once before I had left.

Go for it Petrone!
I’ll remember you in my prayers!

I have copied all these passages in the bible. When I am going home I will read these passages.

If it’s a BIG confession, it could take a while and you might want to make a private appointment.

My day of reconciliation is going to be tomorrow August 25 2007.
Almighty and merciful God,
You have brought me here in the name of your son to receive your mercy and grace in my time of need. Open my eyes to see the evil I have done. Touch my heart and convert me to yourself. Where sin has separated me from you, may your love unite me to you again; where sin has brought weakness, may your power heal and strengthen; where sin has brought death, may your Spirit raise to new life, Give me a new heart to love you, so that my life may reflect the image of your Son. May the world see the glory of Christ revealed in your Church and come to know that He is the one whom you have sent, Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.
Amen

That’s great. I also recommending Scott Hahn’s Home Sweet Rome.

I understand everything already posted on this one. Speaking as a former Protestant, going to confession was a big hurdle for me. I was used to just asking God’s forgiveness on a daily (and sometimes hourly…) basis, and though I didn’t always FEEL forgiven, my church’s beliefs assured me I was.
I still have trouble with going to confession. It’s much easier to simply pray for forgiveness, and you don’t have to wait until you can find a priest to hear your confession. I know Our Lord set up confession, and there are very valid psychological benefits to this sacrament. I do go to confession, it’s just not easy.

It’s interesting to hear the comments from people regarding confession. For some reason it is “easier” for people to confess directly to God, than through a priest. (I thought the same, so I am not criticizing) Why? Do people have no fear of God?

I read a good book recently - Angels (and Demons) by Peter Kreeft. He made the point that even when Angels appear, the first thing they to say is “don’t be afraid.” Moses has to take his sandals off and is afraid to look at God, when confronted at Mt. Horeb.

I think a lot of us may be a little too casual in our relationship with God. If you are truly sorry for offending God by committing a mortal sin, a little fear and may be appropriate. Be thankful that we have a priest as counsellor to help us in these crucial moments.

Good day, Petrone -

Just to remind you…please change your profile to read from “born again christian” to “Catholic”! 👍
