Spot the Catholic Cathedral(s)

A post in another subforum on the subject of what people feel is best in a parish church and cathedral design wise for fostering good Catholic liturgy and got me thinking. As a challenge of sorts, can you spot the Catholic Cathedrals among the 10 Cathedrals I’ve listed here (and no peeking at the URLs as that will give it away. Which do you think are Catholic? And which aren’t? I’ve run into this very issue in my own parish as it is often mistaken for a Catholic Cathedral…

One give away will always be the statue or depiction of the blessed Mother next to Jesus.

Many non Catholic Cathedrals wont have that.

But those images are not up close so i cant see if it is there or not, either way.
 
#9-some of the women are wearing veils. Other than that-don’t know.

It is a possible giveaway… however the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is present in my own non-Catholic Cathedral parish. So it’s not a sure thing. And I admit the images aren’t the closest, however I was going for the “you’ve just walked in the door” angle. Take a guess anyway, you’ve just walked in off the street… are you in a Catholic Cathedral?

I’ll post the answers later today once people have had a go.
 
I’ll guess that 2, 3, 5, 8, 9 and 11 are Catholic. I’m not sure about 7 because I can think of one place it might be but not sure.

Others not Catholic.
 
Do you have a photo of the “Crystal Cathedral” in California?

[It was purchased by the Catholic diocese and modified.]

#7 Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption (San Francisco). Catholic
 
I’ll say 1,3,5,9,11

Still like the last one best…I don’t particularly like the ornate ones.
As a Director of Liturgy, good liturgy doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the space. It has more to do with the celebrant, the people, and appropriateness. Nothing superfluous to what the Church herself has provided for liturgy. People always want to mix in “innovations”. That’s when we have problems.
The Mass stands alone in beauty. Just do it right. In any language.

It’s not a cathedral, but I pass St. Mary’s in the Diocese of Stockton often when I go down to the Bay. It’s a neat red brick building with big steeples rising up from the urban sprawl and 12 lane highways. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.co...a2fd903506d7210b66b8--catholic-washington.jpg

This picture doesn’t do it justice. When you’re heading down the 4, and there’s traffic all around, and the grey dirty city spread out as far as you can see. I always feel like that little spot is peaceful. Like you can get away from the rush all around and just breathe there.

You can’t see the image of OL of Walsingham when you have just walked in the door of our cathedral. You’ll have to turn your head hard right and look at the entry wall.

I agree with you on this, Mike. And of course #1 Grace Episcopal just a few miles away. I, like Padres, love the neo-Gothic style as opposed to the late 60’s and 1970’s look of St Mary’s.

I know a number of others in your listing, Padres, but won’t give it away yet. And for the ones I don’t recognize, there are some clues that can’t be missed.
