I believe we are in that battle now. These words from the letter in this article are comforting though.

“In that letter we find written: ‘The final battle between the Lord and the kingdom of Satan will be about Marriage and the Family.’ Don’t be afraid, she added, because whoever works for the sanctity of Marriage and the Family will always be fought against and opposed in every way, because this is the decisive issue. Then she concluded: ‘nevertheless, Our Lady has already crushed his head’.”

My husband and I will definitely be fighting on the righteous good side against Satan and his evil doers.

I think this is pure fear mongering… sister Lucia herself said that Fatima was about the struggle of the Church against atheistic communism… See below for all you need to know on Sr Lucia and Fatima.

In a interview at Fatima, Pope Benedict XVI (then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger) spoke about visions and apparitions: “To all curious people, I would say I am certain that the Virgin does not engage in sensationalism; she does not act in order to instigate fear. She does not present apocalyptic visions, but guides people to her Son. And this is what is essential.”

Third secret of Fatima is not, he said, “sensational or apocalyptic.” He continued, “Preoccupation with the message and its presumed predictions of catastrophe are not part of a healthy Marian devotion. The Madonna did not appear to children, to the small, to the simple, to those unknown in the world in order to create a sensation.” Mary’s purpose “is, through these simple ones, to call the world back to simplicity, that is, to the essentials: conversion, prayer, and the sacraments.”

From the Theological Commentary on Fatima from Cardinal Jospeh Ratzinger (future Pope Bendict XVI):

A careful reading of the text of the so-called third “secret” of Fatima, published here in its entirety long after the fact and by decision of the Holy Father, will probably prove disappointing or surprising after all the speculation it has stirred. No great mystery is revealed; nor is the future unveiled. We see the Church of the martyrs of the century which has just passed represented in a scene described in a language which is symbolic and not easy to decipher. . . . Thus we come finally to the third part of the “secret” of Fatima which for the first time is being published in its entirety [Ratzinger, MF, op. cit.].

Sr. Lucia herself indicated that she agreed with the interpretation offered by the Vatican: "Sister Lucia agreed with the interpretation that the third part of the “secret” was a prophetic vision, similar to those in sacred history. She repeated her conviction that the vision of Fatima concerns above all the struggle of atheistic Communism against the Church and against Christians, and describes the terrible sufferings of the victims of the faith in the twentieth century [Bertone, MF, op. cit.]. "

Interesting. Pope Francis wrote about this when he spoke of attempts to “redefine” marriage and the family to go beyond God’s plan of marriage being between one man and one woman. I’m just wondering how to square this with the accounts of the “final battle” in Sacred Scripture. 😉

…I (Cardinal Caffarra) received a long letter with her (Sr. Lucia) signature, which is now in the archives of the Institute,” the Italian cardinal said.
“In that letter we find written: ‘The final battle between the Lord and the kingdom of Satan will be about Marriage and the Family.’…

Yep. That’s exactly where it started too.
Gutless satan targeting Eve instead of Adam - attempting to divide them from each other.

No surprise that God inextricably links the integrity and stability of His Holy Church with the Holy sacrament between husband and wife.

No surprise that He commands us to Honor our father AND mother. Was there ever a more emphatic invocation of heterosexual, gender-balanced parenthood in the bible than that one? Why? Because God’s original plan/design/will was and is perfect.

satan hates the purity and beauty of what God created in Eden.

Yet even after satan’s despicable act of complicity in The Fall, God nonetheless sticks with Adam and Eve. They are naked and afraid upon realising they have lost paradise and yet look what God does for them - He clothes them.

“At that moment, as they were about to leave Eden and face the world as we know it, a place of darkness, Adam gave his wife the first gift of love, a personal name. And at that moment, God responded to them both in love, and made them garments to clothe their nakedness, or as Rabbi Meir put it, “garments of light”.”

How can it be a battle when its God who is ‘allowing’ Satan and his minions to continually have all kinds of influence on our world? Why would you give your enemy any kind of advantage, especially with your prized creation (mankind)?

I would agree the times are definitely against traditional marriage/ family, but all this goes on, yet God does not send any kind of warning or sign…(or better yet, a warning or sign that mankind would RECOGNIZE as a warning/ sign and not try to attribute it to something else entirely, or question whether it was a warning/ sign at all)?

I tend to think if God sends a warning/sign, people JUST KNOW what it is and where it coming from, in the OT it was this way at least.

A person can initiate a battle against God.
God didn’t ask for it.

This letter to the Cardinal wasn’t about the third “secret”. There’s no talk about a final battle in the third secret.

I don’t consider it fear mongering. It’s obvious to all that marriage and family are under attack. Hopefully it will inspire believers to pray, pray, PRAY for the conversion of all who are living contrary to God’s will.

I also find Sr. Lucia’s words - “nevertheless, Our Lady has already crushed his head” - consoling. And encouraging.

Could you give some Scripture references for the “final battle”. The Book of Revelation doesn’t have a whole lot about it (Rev. 20:7-10). These verses could easily be understood in accordance with Sr. Lucia’s words. At least I think they could.

Revelation 20: 7-10 also calls back to Ezekiel 38-39.

There are also references in 2 Thessalonians 1: 5-9.

All of these seem to suggest some form of temporal battle, though they can also be allegorically interpreted in terms of spiritual warfare. 👍

I think the ‘temporal’ and the spiritual aspects of this battle are simultaneously part of the same thing. And it’s a very real thing in my view. Nothing abstract or allegorical about what satan is attacking - he is attacking God and us.

When we are asked to put on the whole armour of God, and warned about the spirit being willing but the flesh is weak, I don’t think God is talking about some virtual reality game console. I think spiritual warfare is exactly that - war. Life and Death.

I agree that the battle will be both temporal and spiritual: it’s already both:
Spiritually: the abandonment of Christian moral standards in the thinking of so many; the wide acceptance that self fulfillment/career is more important than family;
Temporally/physically, we see it in the fining, imprisonment, discrimination, etc. of those who refuse to reject God’s/Church’s teaching on abortion, contraception, divorce…
There are many Christians being martyred just for being Christian.

And spiritual warfare needs to fought with spiritual weapons.

Just heard from a friend who was reading in the Divine Mercy book. She said the Mother of God told St Faustina *** " your lives must be like mine: quiet and hidden, in unceasing union with God, pleading for humanity and preparing the world for the second coming of God."***

These messages do not mean that Our Lord’s second coming and the end or the world is immanent. It may be of course, but it may still be thousands of years off. What they mean to me is that, at the time the message is given, the direction of mankind is going (or about to go) disastrously off course and so there is a **great need **for people to **pray more often and more fervently **for the conversion of souls – so that when Our Lord comes to them after death for judgment they will not find themselves in the state of mortal sin. For those who remain faithful to Our Lord, there is absolutely no need to be afraid.

If Im not mistaken, wasnt it Pope John Paul, who said something to the effect of desiring to know the details about the ‘3rd secret’ are akin to knowing beforehand some terrible event where millions would die, sort of implying they would regret asking about it once they learned the details. I believe this was in a German interview, it was discussed on here in another thread awhile back.

I would not be surprised if there was something about God sending something terrible on mankind, I mean, how long will he just allow all this stuff to go on as it has for so long now, at some point, eventually he is going to take action, to sort of get us back on the right track.

This is a very scary and irrational way of thinking. This kind of reasoning leads groups of innocent people, Jews, gays, Christians, atheists, you name it who are blamed for not only terrorist attacks, but also weather catastrophes like earthquakes and tsunamis. Something bad happens and people like this see it as a sign from God or as you say God taking action against said group or groups.
