This is a very scary and irrational way of thinking. This kind of reasoning leads groups of innocent people, Jews, gays, Christians, atheists, you name it who are blamed for not only terrorist attacks, but also weather catastrophes like earthquakes and tsunamis. Something bad happens and people like this see it as a sign from God or as you say God taking action against said group or groups.
Sometimes it is just natural disasters. Or God actively decides these disasters. Like with Sodom.

I don’t believe that God actively destroyed anything. That’s just a story, no one turned to salt. Many dispute the actual existence of Sodom and Gomorrah, like Noahs ark and genesis, not literal stories

Well, in the bible God sends warnings/signs to people more than a few times, if we believe the bible, there is no reason why God would not do the same thing in our times, I noticed you are agnostic though, so I doubt this answer will be sufficient for you.

Hello. Do you believe God is sending or has sent any warnings the past 100 years? Which one’s specifically? I’m just fascinated how people can justify natural disasters and horrible acts of violence and terror as divine intervention. 🤷

Do you believe wars are punishment from God? It is is possible an even greater war will happen. The world has not stopped offending God, actually, I think the offences have gotten worse.

"Mary Predicts World War II

On July 12, 1917, Our Lady of Fatima said that another world war was coming, and provided the signs:

“The war is going to end. But if they do not stop offending God, another and worse one will begin in the reign of Pius XI. When you shall see a night illumined by an unknown light, you know that this is the great sign that God gives you that he is going to punish the world for its many crimes by means of war, hunger, and of persecution of the Church and the Holy Father.

To prevent this, I shall come to ask the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the communion of reparation on the Five First Saturdays. If my requests are granted, Russia will be converted and there will be peace. If not, she will scatter her errors throughout the world, provoking wars and persecution of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will suffer much, and various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph, the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me and it will be converted, and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world.”

The war going on at that time was World War I, and Pius XI was not the pontiff then. The “unknown light” was seen on the night of January 25, 1938 and was described by scientists as a freak form of aurora borealis. The New York Times reported the event as follows:

“London. January 25, 1938. The aurora borealis, rarely seen in Southern or Western Europe spread fear in parts of Portugal and Lower Austria tonight while thousands of Britons were brought running into the streets in wonderment.”

Forty-five days later. Hitler invaded Austria, starting the Second World War in the reign of Pius XI."

👍

Im sure if these ‘unknown lights’ were seen in our times, we would have experts rushing to explain it away as something natural, nothing to be concerned about, yada yada, yada. They would give us a scientific explanation using big words to ease everyones mind. LOL

In fact, I believe they would do this even if Jesus himself descended from heaven into Times square at rush hour…point is, they would NEVER attribute anything to a literal act of God.

Of course I do not believe Wars are a punishment from God. Wars are created and waged by mankind. Period. It’s disingenuous and dangerous to attribute God to any type of disaster, War, or terrorist act. This way of thinking leads to fear, hatred, and justification for both.

How was Our Lady of Fatima able to predict the second world war, the visions came in 1917, and how did she know about the signs in the sky before World War II started, if the warning and war were not from God?

All things are present to God. His knowledge of events is not restricted by linear time as ours is.

God does not send evils (war, famine, etc.), but He can intervene to prevent or lessen evils when people convert and pray. However, when people turn away from Him, reject Him, He can choose to withdraw His protection. This can take place not just with individuals, but with whole countries and/or cultures.

God expresses this concept to the Jews through Isaiah the prophet:
Isaiah 5:1-7
…5:3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem … 5:4 What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done in it? When I looked for it to yield grapes, why did it yield wild grapes? 5:5 And now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard. I will remove its hedge, and it shall be devoured; I will break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. The “hedge” and the “wall” are metaphors for protection God had provided for His chosen people. The verses say that He will be removing His protection because they had rejected His teaching/authority.

The warning was from God. The war was not. **The war was from man **as a result of not heeding the warning; of choosing not to love and heed God; of not loving their neighbor as themselves.

Since this was a private revelation it was intended for Sr. Lucia alone. Would God warn all of humanity through a private revelation?

Again it is very dangerous to say God is protecting or punishing anyone for any reason. San Francisco is on the San Andreas Fault. However I guarantee if a major earthquake hit this year a very large majority of ultraconservative people would say God is punishing homosexuals. Guaranteed. But if just one Catholic Church got hit by an earthquake it would just be a terrible natural disaster.

Do you deny the Assyrian and Babylonian exiles?

God disciplines us. The Bible warns us over and over again about the wages of sin.

The time to worry is when God ceases to discipline us and turns us over to our sin, that is, he allows our hearts to be hardened.

Natural Disasters no matter where they happen are not acts of God or punishment from God, same with terrorist attacks, do you agree?

When, where and how has God disciplined us specifically?

Sure, if she did what she was told with the information, Im assuming she followed directions as they were given to her, and then the responsibility would fall on whoevers duty it is to reveal this to the public at large.

For many years the past Popes have determined the times were not right to reveal the information, so whatever made them feel it was right to let it out when they did, is anyones guess. Personally though I do not believe the ‘big secret’ was just about an attempted assassination though, if that was accurate, the times would have been right long before they actually did, but thats just my opinion.

In my opinion, it probably detailed how God would punish the world if they continued on the same path, it was likely pretty severe, so I can understand why they would be hesitant to release such a thing, public panic would be a HUGE problem for everyone.

Since no one can predict the future, there’s zero evidence, zero that anyone could predict how God would “punish the world.” This is simply fear mongering and again justification for natural disasters and terrorist acts.

The ultraconservatives who said that probably consider all natural disasters as punishment from God and so would also say that the Church was being punished by God.

All earthquakes are natural disasters. But God can intervene to protect from natural disasters.
