Does this mean they’re real Catholics now?
Does this mean they’re real Catholics now?
Are you deliberately trying to undermine the Pope’s desire for reconciliation with the SSPX or do you just not realize how offensive that is?Does this mean they’re real Catholics now?
No I don’t. I really meant that, canonically, does it mean they’re in communion with now or not? I don’t understand how it works. Are you deliberately trying to undermine the Pope’s desire for reconciliation with the SSPX or do you just not realize how offensive that is?
Ah. Also this was released this morning.I’m extremely excited, however nothing is final, and this all has to go through the normal channels of bureaucracy.
Please see my last post on the other SSPX thread (the merged one). It contains more information. A communique was released by the Holy See.
I find your question insulting to my Catholic brethren. I’m not in the SSPX but what I’ve found is they are the best Catholics I know. In the end, the Vatican will owe them an engraved apology and Lefebvre will be one day made a saint. Because it was open to amendments, and the SSPX made some small amendments.Ah. Also this was released this morning.
“On April 17, 2012 was received, as requested at the meeting of March 16, 2012, held at the headquarters of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the text of the response of H.E. Bishop Bernard Fellay, Superior General of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X. The above mentioned text will be examined by the Congregation and then submitted to the judgment of the Holy Father.”
I don’t get something though. Wasn’t the preamble written by the Vatican? Naturally the CDF would have had to approve it, and given the importance of it presumably the Holy Father would have read the preamble before it was offered to SSPX. If SSPX signed it, why do the Pope and the CDF still have to examine/judge what they would have drafted in the first place?
The OP has already clarified that he meant the legal standing of the SSPX priests. No one can be “the best Catholic” who is out of communion with the Pope, it simply isn’t possible.I find your question insulting to my Catholic brethren. Agree with every word, Mrs Sally. The OP has already clarified that he meant the legal standing of the SSPX priests. No one can be “the best Catholic” who is out of communion with the Pope, it simply isn’t possible.
Please read at least the last couple of pages of the merged SSPX thread. In there Br JR explains the process of lifting the excommunications on the 4 living SSPX bishops and why the excommunication for Bishop Lefebvre hasn’t been.
It is wonderful every time someone reconcilies with Holy Mother Church, but we always need to remember that the Pope is Christ’s vicar on earth. We reconcile with him, he doesn’t reconcile with us.![]()
I’m giving the OP the benefit of the doubt in that it was not meant to be insulting. This, unfortunately, is how many feel about the SSPX. But I totally agree with you. If not the “best” Catholics, they are certainly among the most devout of Catholics. I too believe that one day Archbishop Lefebvre will one day be declared a saint. Like many others, I think he is the one who saved the Latin Mass. I have no doubt he is rejoicing in heaven today.I find your question insulting to my Catholic brethren. I’m not in the SSPX but what I’ve found is they are the best Catholics I know. In the end, the Vatican will owe them an engraved apology and Lefebvre will be one day made a saint. Deo gratias.
Let’s just be grateful and not worry about who “won” or who owes who an “engraved apology.” We are about to witness the awesome power of God as he reconciles more souls to His Church. Praise be to God!I find your question insulting to my Catholic brethren. I’m not in the SSPX but what I’ve found is they are the best Catholics I know. Thanks Mrs Sally for coming to my defence. Blessed are the peacemakers! The OP has already clarified that he meant the legal standing of the SSPX priests. No one can be “the best Catholic” who is out of communion with the Pope, it simply isn’t possible.

Everything comes down to the Divine Mercy of God. But this is also the result of tremendous prayer on the part of thousands and maybe millions of people, here and in heaven.Nevertheless, what’s past is past, the future is what matters now. Is it too much for me to say this is a miracle of Divine Mercy?
My guess is that the SSPX signing party may have added some changes or amendments to the document before sending it back. Prudence dictates the documents be reviewed again before making them known and officially accepted.I don’t get something though. Wasn’t the preamble written by the Vatican? Naturally the CDF would have had to approve it, and given the importance of it presumably the Holy Father would have read the preamble before it was offered to SSPX. No one will doubt this, and I agree with you. But make no mistake; I refuse to believe that it’s a coincidence that this took place a couple of days after Divine Mercy Sunday.Everything comes down to the Divine Mercy of God. But this is also the result of tremendous prayer on the part of thousands and maybe millions of people, here and in heaven.
AMEN -Let’s just be grateful and not worry about who “won” or who owes who an “engraved apology.” We are about to witness the awesome power of God as he reconciles more souls to His Church. Praise be to God!
