Because no major changes were made to the Roman Rite at Trent, it was the same Rite already in use, not a new one. The Roman Rite dates at least to the 5th c. and parts of the Canon date to St. Peter himself. Thus when St. Peter was starting the Roman Rite, perhaps people saw something of a a discontinuity between Jewish and Christian practice but that was to be expected (although many things have their counterparts and they were even still listening to the Scriptures in the Synagogues for a little while).

I am not quite sure what exactly your agenda is here Pilgrim, but I really have to wonder about you identifying yourself as “traditional”. Most of the “traditional” catholics do not think that their opinions are higher and more accurate than that of a sitting Pope.

I don’t think that every opinion expressed by a pope, sitting or not, should be treated like dogma. There is nothing which puts the teaching authority of the present Magisterium over and above that of the prior Magisterium, it does not have all control simply because these are the people who are in power right now. The Church is apart from time.

I see nothing wrong with criticizing the words and actions of our Holy Father (with all due respect, of course, I’m not sitting here calling him names). However, I do see that this thread is going nowhere useful and is becoming quite off-topic since I am repeating myself. Earlier I posted part of a brilliant essay by Fr. Chad Ripperger, FSSP, on Conservative vs. Traditional Catholicism. It is well worth reading.

Because when the “Tridentine” Mass came around, we were moving from Judaism to Christianity and that was a significant development.

Um, when we were moving away from Judaism the Mass consisted of all of those “antiquarian” items you spoke of. We moved away from Judaism thanks to people like Saint Paul and the Early Church Fathers.

Brother JR gave a well reasoned and informative response regarding this, I have yet to see you or anyone else refute it.

So here’s the question for you; do you feel that the Ordinary Form is 100% valid?

Are we now simply too afraid or too proud to admit that a terrible mistake was made?

I’ll respond to your question with a question: How can a/the Roman Rite get to such a state that people can question it’s basic validity?

I can see a day when it’ll be quietly suppressed.
