Hello all,

I am looking for information on the SSPX Chapel in Edmonds, WA. I currently attend the FSSP North American Martyrs parish in Ballard but I am interested in attending the SSPX Chapel. I cannot find a website nor any information. Are there any parishioners?

Thank you!

Please forgive my ignorance. What do the initials SSPX and FSSP stand for? Could you educate me, are they types of Catholic churches or special devotions? Thank you.

Of course OneHolyCathAp !

FSSP stands for Priestly Fraternity of St Peter
fssp.org/en/index.htm

SSPX stands for Society of St Pius X
fsspx.org/en/

They are both Traditional Catholic Organisations. The FSSP is in communion with Rome. The SSPX is not.

I would agree as well stick to where you are. The SSPX is not in communion with Rome.

We all have a right to choose, but in my mind a choice to join the SSPX is wrong and it will cause a lot of damage to anyone living in Communion with The RCC (Roman Catholic Church.) One should never disobey what the RCC teach, as is the case with SSPX. If you are a Catholic, obey. If not, pray.

Is it not in the Bible over and over that we are a “Stiff Necked People”?

Always lookingout for how to displease God!

We need to follow our holy father’s call for humility which is the example set forth by Jesus, Mary and all the Saints that have preceeded us 👍

Why do you want to join a group that’s not in full communion with the Church?

Very well put, and you are very right about it causing damage.
👍

I do not understand how any faithful Catholic could tell another Catholic to attend a group that is not in full communion and is in a irregular status.
I pray for the full communion of the SSPX. Lord knows we need them. But they MUST come into the fold.

One could attend under certain circumstances but if you already go to the Extraordinary form at a valid FSSP Mass then why on earth would you go to the SSPX?

Thank you all for the replies. As I said in my original post, at this point, it is only an interest. I am new in this forum and I am quickly realizing that SSPX is not very welcome here and that some SSPX members have been even banned.

The situation with the SSPX is very complex and is not settled by any means, to say the least. The Vatican and the SSPX have been involved in discussions for years concerning their reconciliation to the Church and still are unable to resolve their differences. Some will say it is the fault of the SSPX and others will say it is the fault of the Church. The only thing that boths sides really agree on is that the situation complex and ugly.

On this forum you will find people who actively dislike the SSPX and others who actively support them. You will find some supporters who have been banned as well as some who don’t support them being banned. It is not a cut and dried sitiuation by any means.

Currently the SSPX is NOT in full communion with the Church. The celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Mass exclusively. They DO have valid Bishops and valid Priests, but neither group has any authority to perform any Liturgical functions. For instance, they cannot legally celebrate a Mass. ** BUT** if they do celebrate one, the Eucharist that they confect does contain the body, soul, blood and divinity of Jesus Christ in its entirity. The Church has not said that the laity cannott attend one of their Masses but does not advocate it in any way, shape or form. In fact trhe Church has stated that it can, under certain circumstances be permissable to attend one.

The FSSP was formed by Priests who left the SSPX in order to come into full communion with Rome. They also celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Mass and are in full communion with the Church. they currently run many traditional Parishes worldwide.

The history and situation of the SSPX is as I said earlier, very complex. Books have been written about it and it is sure to cause a stir when mentioned on these forums.

My advice, until the situation is settled, if you want to go to an Extraordinary Form Mass and the FSSP is available, go there. I would stay away from the SSPX until the matter is resolved unless there was a real emergency.

I don’t know if it is so much that the SSPX is not welcome, as much as dissent is. Be it a Catholic who posts in support of the SSPX stance that they need to teach the Faith to the Pope, and Rome has lost it’s dogmatic and moral ground, or an ultra liberal who promotes other equally non-Catholic ideas that Homosexual Marriage is just dandy and a woman should be able to abort her unborn child, would end up with a ban, and be unwelcomed, as it does not conform to Catholic standards.

Having been smack dab in the middle of the SSPX for well over a decade, I can tell you that externalally the Mass you attend at the FSSP church follows the same Missal, and rubrics as the SSPX, What will be different is the FSSP parish will promote the unity of the Faith with the Holy Father. The SSPX chapels will isolate you from unity and call into question the Pope and most anyone who does not belong to or adhere to the Society.

Your confessions would be invalid if you obtain them from an SSPX priest.

Stick to your FSSP parish.

Oh, I’m familiar with NAM. Sometimes I go there, sometimes I go to Star of the Sea in Bremerton. I’d stick with NAM, unless you absolutely, couldn’t get to mass otherwise, emergency-situation had to switch to a SSPX.

SSPX members are not banned because they are SSPX members. If they are banned, it is for violating forum rules, just like anyone else.
