I was just thinking - every one of the SSPX Rosary Crusades have come to fruition - first was making the Latin Mass more available. Then it happened. Next was the lifting of the excommunications. It happened. I was hoping that their next one would be for full reconciliation with the Church - but, they chose to focus on the Consecration of Russia instead…
Wait, I’m confused. Are you saying that the current Rosary Crusade is for the consecration of Russia and not the end to conflict?

Be patient folks. Remember, if it’s true, they delivered this to the Vatican at the end of last week. The Vatican does not work on weekends. Today is only Monday.

Cardinal Levada will read it. He will probably send copies to the other theologians on the commission, then they will write up a proposal for the Holy Father and give it over to the Pope’s secretary. The secretary prioritizes for the Pope. If that’s the most important piece of the day, the Holy Father will get to it immediately. If it’s not, it may take a day or two. My guess is sometime between this Wed and next Wed. I don’t know why Wed sticks in my head. Maybe I just like Weds. 😃

But maybe that could be accomplishing two purposes. Maybe the SSPX reunification could be the key to the consecration of Russia. So even though they weren’t specifically praying for reconciliation with the Church, our Blessed Mother might be working towards that end anyway. The Rosary is a very powerful tool. As Sister Lucy said: “There is no problem I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.”

😊
I’m a little impatient. I just found out about the talks between the SSPX and the Vatican that have been going on since last September, yesterday evening. So, if anyone, you guys who have been following this for a long time have the right to be impatient.
I’m exited to say the least.

I agree. I am excited and hopeful too.

I hope not seeing that Russia has already been consecrated.

I think we can put Russia aside for the time being. We need to focus on the end to this other “Cold War” that has been going on for 25 years.

I’m terribly curious about several things.
  1. If Bishop Fellay has answered to the Vatican’s satisfaction, which is our hope and prayer, what will the hardliners do?
  2. There are other groups out there that are not being brought in with the SSPX, because they are not part of the SSPX. For example, there are the Capuchins at Mormon (I think that’s how you spell it). They would not come under this umbrella. They have to reunite with the Capuchin Franciscan Order. My curiosity is what will groups like that do? They’re very small.
  3. If the SSPX splits, which I believe it will, will it be a peaceful parting?
The one thing that I admired about the Transalpine Redemptorists, now the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, was how they came in. It was very peaceful. The Superior General signed the papers. Those who were in disagreement were allowed to leave quietly. There was no public comment on blogs or newsletters, etc. They parted like gentlemen. I would imagine that there must have been some financial arrangements, because you don’t just let people walk out the door and become homeless. Don’t fool yourselves, it’s not a big severance check either. 😃
  1. Are they ready to wait patiently while matters get settled and paperwork is processed?
The Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer were told that they could not accept anyone until they were canonically erected. That took a few months. The next step was that they could not present any men for ordination until the Holy Father cleared it. That took a year.

They were so nice about it. The way they wrote about it on their website inspired my admiration. Their spirit was, “God speaks through the Church. We’ll just sit over here and wait until he tells us what to do next.” It was beautiful to see their humility, their patience and their realism that nothing moves quickly at the Vatican.

I became such a big fan that I’ve sent them three guys who wanted to join us. They were better suited for them. Hmmm, I wonder if I can get a commission.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on the matter right now.

If we get Bp. Fellay, do we get the official SSPX, insomuch as, does that mean that the SSPX is officially reunited with the pope?

I hope.

    I really hope.

If the SSPX come home, will the FSSP disappear?
I think both will be around. Albigensians disappeared and we still have the Dominicans 🙂

On the playful side, I predict SSPX vs FSSP football games (similar to the famous Army/Navy game)

The Society will be in full communion with the Church.

The next steps to be decided is what type of union that will be. If it’s a personal prelature, the canons don’t say much.

Personal Prelatures

One thing is clear, the Pope will appoint a prelate, which I would imagine would be Bishop Fellay. What happens to the other bishops is anyone’s guess at this moment. You can only have one prelate.

They will need permission from the diocesan bishops to operate in the dioceses where they are, according to Canon Law. The other way that the Vatican can work this is to grandfather them in by giving them permission to be where they are and from this day forward, they must go by the canonical route, asking for permission to come into a diocese. Grandfathering makes more sense to me.

It will also be interesting to see if the SSPX becomes like the Society of the Holy Cross. The Society of the Holy Cross is comprised of the priests that serve in the Prelature of the Opus Dei. Most people simply call them Opus Dei priests. My question is will this prelature have another name and the SSPX be its clerical society? That may not be a bad idea, since some people have a knee-jerk reaction when they hear SSPX. But if it were the Prelature of The Holy Rosary (I just made that up) and the SSPX serves the prelature, the attention would be on The Holy Rosary and its mission statement.

All of this is assuming that they are going to come in as a prelature. The Holy Father can invent a new animal.

I just hope that if they get into football, the FSSP does not wear the blue shoulder capes over their uniform. They’re a little loud. 😃

On a serious note, I agree that the FSSP will remain around. They’re two very different institutes. They have literally evolved away from each other. The only thing that they have in common is the EF. The FSSP has earned it’s place among other institutes. It has a wonderful relationship with religious and secular orders, secular institutes, societies of apostolic life, and diocesan clergy. Because they generally work within the infrastructure of a diocese, they are looked upon as part of the team.

Everyone respects the autonomy that Church law allows them to have while accepting their presence.

There are always the critics; but what group does not have critics?

The SSPX will be in a different situation, if it’s a prelature. It will be more isolated. It’s like a diocese without boundaries. I guess the closest thing I can think of is the Military Archdiocese. It’s there, but they never get invited to birthday parties, because people forget it exists.

Is there a list of all the goals of the Rosary Crusades somewhere?

  1. They will do as hardliners do…
  2. I imagine they will receive an invitation from the Holy See to do what they need to do to regularize.
  3. I imagine the split (which is inevitable) between the clergy will be peaceful, but between the laity, not so much.
  4. I have no reason to think otherwise.

That is the ICRSS, not the FSSP. 🙂

I had no idea that these groups even existed until today. I was searching some websites on Benedictine Spirituality and came across a monastery which seems to fall into that same category.

Right after I saw that, I read your post which was kind of odd.

Do you know anything about these groups? Have any of them been heard from regarding normalization of relations with Rome?

I very much hope that a way is found to bring every one of these groups back into the fold.

Do we know how big SSPX is? Do they have a substantial number of priests?
