that footnote (also in the New American Bible)
is true enough, as far as it goes, but the problem is that
that footnote DOESN’T go far enough. The Pharisees
who did that, had been doing that continuously (see my post above). It wasn’t a matter of saying that in a moment of passion or confusion or forgetfulness. These individuals were actively scheming against Christ and against the clear evidence, continuously seen, of His goodness and Divine power.
