We didn’t have the blessing of the throats… and I can’t even find the feast day of St. Blaise on our calendar! Which Sunday was it?

I’m so sad that we missed out. 😦 Having our throats blessed as little children in parochial school is a very fond memory.
Saint Blase is celebrated by an optional memorial on February 3. However, Sunday takes precedence over memorials; so it was omitted from the calendar this year. It was permissible, though not required, to offer the blessing of throats which is traditional on the 3rd.

We also had the blessing of throats this past Sunday, but most of the blessings were given out by laypersons… is this legitimate?

I was wondering why they didn’t bless throats on Sun. I didn’t see it marked on the calendar either and thought they may have abandoned it. I’m glad to see from the other replies that it was just moved from Sun. to Mon. possibly because of the Sun. liturgy
