Yes at one point in the span of a few paragraphs he pulled single verses from numerous areas, let me show ya here in a moment.
Here…
Romans 10:1-21
Please DO read all these because its actually very amusing to see for yourself

Paul “plucks verses”
Paul starts in… Lev 18:5 …
Then he turns to… Duet 30:12-14
Next right to… Isaiah 28:16
…immediately into… Joel 2:32
… then he returns back into… Isaiah 52:7
…He skips “up to”… Isaiah 53:1
… Turns to… Psalms 19:4
…reaches back into …Duet 32:21
…now and up to… Isaiah 65:1-2
Just to make a “single point” (in that very small part in Romans) which is ONLY 21 verses long.
Now “10 of those 21 verses” came from 5 different books (not so bad right John?) But furthermore they are NOT from the chapters of the same book and only TWICE are 2 verses ever taken at one time, the rest is Paul interjecting between them.

How is THAT for a verses pulled at “random”? I’d say fairly cherry picked…Thats the beauty and awesomeness of the written word… It is layers deep and always perfect.

No.

In 2000 years, will people be studying your writings? Will people make pilgrimages to the very places you preached just because you preached there?
No why would they?

Are you suggesting I think I am something more than I am? or are you just taking a personal shot? Or what?

In the grace and love of our LORD and Savior.
Simon

Yes, Paul uses 12 OT references in chapter 9, 12 more in chapter 10, and 12 more in chapter 11 (hmmmm…, 12 times in 3 different sections - a numerologists dream, eh?). He even uses the word Israel 12 times during this same span.

I’m just averse to using the term “cherry picking”, which implies that he used only the verses that agree with him, while over-looking the verses that may dis-prove his point. This would cast a shadow on Paul’s writings, IMO.

The prooftexting is someting done to an extreme extent from both pro and con roman POV’s. Invite your fundy friend here, I need some help in the defense of our faith…😃
Given the ‘gutterball’ approach he seems to take on occasion, you may not want his help.
I have found once his argument begins to crumble, he goes into personnal attack mode.

I’m only in it for the audience, I doubt he would ever concede.
But, God made Paul out of Saul, so who knows…

Fair enough in regards to the term but fact is he plucked things from all over to make a point. That’s the beauty in the layers and layers of God’s word my friend.

Did you really mean to favorably compare your proof texting to Paul’s teaching?
I never even attempted this, just making a point that all prooftext! your church Paul you and me…If any denied this they’d be lying.

Ok.

I meant my question as an “are you still beating your wife?” kind of question.

I’ll stop with the petty sarcasm. Its one of my weaknesses, as you can see.

Well, of course, of course I agree! That’s why I call it the “Shrek Effect”!
