I’m embarrassed to be lumped into a group that thinks franco’s should be a saint in spite of his astonishing array of crimes and sins.
To my knowledge only one person on this thread has said that he should be canonized.

good point. let me correct myself.

I’m embarrassed to be lumped into a group that give franco a pass for his astonishing array of crimes and sins.

Are you similarly embarrassed that some Catholics excuse the sins of Truman and Churchill?

set up a thread for discussing Churchill and Truman and we can discuss that there. But, just so you know, Churchill was Church of England and Truman was a southern Baptist.

my point was not to discuss their morality but to point out that they caused more morally illegitimate deaths than Franco, yet people tend to excuse them.

the tu quoque excuse isn’t helping you, if there are weaker excuses that “they did it, therefore I can too”, I don’t know of any. although I’m pleased to see you’re admitting that franco caused morally illegitimate deaths.

I didn’t deny that he did, I was just pointing out that if Truman and Churchill can be excused for their sins, then so can Franco.

The heroine of the republican forces and therefore of the left, is Dolores (“Non passaran”) Ibarruri. She was raised Catholic at least, but turned Communist. She and her Moscow-directed partisans were as bloody as Franco ever dreamed of being. She not only executed Nationalists, but anarchists and even Trotskyite Communists as well. Here’s Ibarruri.

“Trotskyism must be rooted out of the proletarian ranks of our Party as one roots out poisonous weeds. The Trotskyists must be rooted out and disposed of like wild beasts…
Ibárruri, Díaz and the rest of the PCE set out to destroy the Trotskyites.”

During the month of June 1937 the government of the Popular Front, now clearly under Communist sway, eradicates those segments of its own army under the control of the POUM and of the Anarchists, every one stationed in the Front of Aragon. On July 29 the 29th Division of the POUM is disarmed in the Front of Huesca and on August 4 the Anarchist-Sindicalista Council of Aragon is dissolved by decree. In Barcelona the police unleashes the cruellest[neutrality is disputed] of persecutions against the POUM. The new police chief since May is Ricardo Burillo Stholle, a professional officer and a Mason, who was the commander of the Assault Guards that killed José Calvo Sotelo and who has now joined the PCE. On cue from Alexander Orlov—liaison of the NKVD (Soviet secret police) with the Ministry of the Interior of the Second Spanish Republic and responsible on the Soviet side for the transfer of the gold of Moscow from Spain to the Soviet Union—Burillo’s officers arrest Andrés Nin leader of the POUM. Taken first to Valencia and then to Madrid, Nin will be tortured, skinned, mutilated and finally murdered by Orlov’s agents at Alcalá de Henares on June 20, 1937.[36]
The remnants of the POUM leadership were put on trial in Barcelona on October 11, 1938.[37][38] Referring to the arraignments, Ibárruri is often quoted to have said, “It is better to convict a hundred innocent ones than to acquit a single guilty one,”

Skinned. The anti-Franco leaders skinned Andres Nin alive; not for being a Francoist but for being the “wrong kind” of Communist…one who was not completely in STalin’s thrall.
But for Franco, those are the people who would have ruled Spain.

The point of my bringing this up is not to exonerate Franco by citing the worse record of his opponents in the Civil War, but to point out that nobody really knows how many people were killed or otherwise abused by whom, exactly, and to show that the alternative to his rule was, if anything, worse.

your* tu quoque* defense of franco speaks for itself.

I’m not (they weren’t Catholic and they saved Western civilization)

As a Catholic Franco embarrasses me though.

Without Truman and Churchill we’d all be speaking German.

Without Franco er… er… er…🤷

Spain would have been subjected to Stalinist Communism.
Rather than Francoist dictatorship: it’s kinda swings and roundabouts isn’t it.🤷

A dead mother is a dead mother.
An abducted child is an abducted child.

I think Spain deserves more, don’t you?

Catholic government is immensely better than Atheistic Communism, regardless of the form of government. And since Franco’s death perpetual mass murder of children has been legal in spain, and orphans are handed over to be raised by sodomites.

So, if I beat my children up so that they go to church is that a good thing?

1,. CATHOLIC governments typically don’t rape, abduct children, execute dissenters and bury people in unmarked mass graves.
  1. Not all people with SSA are “sodomites” and many are faithful and chaste Catholics. Many married men are sodomites. I’m not sure which group you are referencing so nastily.🤷
  2. Abortion is endemic to all countries - blaming any group is not going to get to the heart of that problem.
