Saint Joan of Arc is my patron saint. I chose her, at age 16, because I was afraid of something/s, and I admired her for being so close to me in age and so strong. I wanted to be able to persevere faithfully in the face of fear and I liked the idea of warrior saint watching over me always.

In my adult life, I find that my admiration only deepens, but recently I have been contemplating the mystery that is God’s ways/ God’s plan. Essentially, I keep asking myself… why France? Why send Joan with the aid of Saint Michael to crown Charles VI? Why intervene in such a mortal conflict?
Which has lead me to contemplate, how much of the story is fantasy and how much is true? Was there truly a prophecy that a woman would ruin France and a maid restore it? If so… why?
I have been reading different books about Joan, but most are historical and not written from a Catholic perspective.
Some personal conclusions I have reached:
Maybe God wanted France to be kept safe for Catholics during the coming years of conflict in the reformation?
Maybe God was only trying to end the 100 years war and acted in France because he saw something in the future we will never know about, should the Burgundians and England have conquered Charles.
Thoughts? I find this topic fascinating.
