Ray Marshall:
I’ve been more tolerant of liturgical abuses here than many would like to see. But there is a huge difference between laypeople giving a homily or two many Extraordinary Ministers on the Altar, or a “Risen Christ Crucifix” and what I see there today.

If my understanding of Morwood’s talk is correct, we’re now talking real heresy. 😦

And since this is still on the website after the meeting with the two Auxiliaries (and Archbishop Flynn last Spring), it sure appears that they are gearing up for a fight.
I have been wondering about this parish’s use of the word presider when posting who is saying the mass. Isn’t that an odd way to say it?
Also what is a gym mass? Just wondering if they have so many parishoners that they need to provide two masses at the same time?
I can’t imagine that this has been going on for so long and this is the first time it has had the attention of the Vatican.

It’s been a long time since I’ve attended Mass there (20+ years).

They used to have a 7:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday’s in the Church and only one large Mass in the School gym because the congregation for that was too big for the Church. The Church Mass was pretty conventional, I recall. But not many attended, probably mostly because of the timing.

I see now they have a 9:00 and a 11:00 on Sundays in the gym (each seating maybe 4-500) and they have a “Family Mass” for grade schoolers and their parents in the Church. The Family Mass in the Church starts after the homily in the gym is over and Sunday School also is over.

The Saturday anticipated Mass at 5:00 pm is also in the Church and the web page states that it “has a smaller attendance and its own unique style and spirit, offering a quiet and reflective alternative to our Sunday liturgies.” So that appears to have replaced the old 7:30 am Mass on Sundays.

The pews have been removed from the Church and comfy chairs are placed around the altar. But they seem to have some GIRM problems also with that Mass: “Father George gave a short sermon followed by everyone gathering around the altar for communion.”

There apparently is no Mass during the week. I don’t recall if there was one when I attended there.

Go suck on an egg; and afterwards, go learn yourself some respect toward those who are ordained ministers of the Church.

In person, if I ever heard a Catholic talk that way to a priest, I’d punch him in the nose.

I’m not kidding; I went to high school in the hood.

You can take a man out of the ghetto, but you can’t take the ghetto out of a man . . .

And BTW, there is nothing even remotely offensive about Father’s comments. Not only did the context make it clear that they were tongue-in-cheek; but even if they were to have been taken seriously, there is nothing at all morally aberrant in what they suggest.

Demolishing a sacred place that has been effectively desecrated, and then reconsecrating it later on, has much historical precedent in the Church.

The again, this sense of the sacred probably illudes you, Crusader, as your posts have time and time again demonsrated a profound lack in knowlege of things Catholic: doctrine, discipline, liturgy et al.
