Good evening

I just discovered that Catholic Book Publishing Company has recently released their version of the New Catholic Bible. So I had one quick questions about it:
Is it the same translation as the CTS New Catholic bible? If not (or if so), which would be the better buy in your opinion?

I currently read the Rheims & The RSV-2CE quite often and have been looking for another nice translation to add to the library. I typically use the Rheims and the RSV-2CE for both study and devotional reading/Lectio. I was looking for something that would be used primarily for prayer/devotional reading, and have heard that the New Catholic Bible is a rather good translation for such. And of course, just because the Catholic inside me is always itching to know- what is the wording for Isaiah 7:14 & Luke 1:28? It’s not really a deal breaker if it says “Hail, full of grace”, but it sure does help 😉

Thanks in advance

God bless

Edit: Do any of these editions have inclusive language? And what is your opinion on the St. jospeh New Catholic Version w/ new testament & psalms?

Hmm, I haven’t heard of this translation before, which surprises me. I thought I was aware of all the major Catholic versions of the Bible in English.

I’m interested to know more about it, too. It looks like the translation only includes the NT and Psalms as of now.

Here is a link which includes a preview:

It looks promising.

It is so new that you may be the only one with a copy! The CTS bible is an updated Jerusalem/New Jerusalem Bible, so I doubt that is its source.

JMO, but good, daily reading bibles include Tyndale’s recently introduced Catholic New Living Translation. It is not bad, being perhaps only slightly dumbed-down and I note that the Protestant influence has not been 100% expunged, but if you are well-catechized, it will be fine.

The Revised English Bible by Oxford-Cambridge is a little-known but very good bible. One must purchase the version with the Deuterocanonical books (“Apocrypha”) to have a complete bible. But the basic text is quite good reading. Sadly, due to the manner in which it was formatted in 1989, no dedicated Catholic edition is planned.

Just a couple of fairly recent and affordable options.
