Grace, last night on the “Trump rally”- thread you kept picking at me over the the alleged need for “charity” and “politeness.”

When a poster says “I’m leaving due to unkindness,” your posting a smarmy, over-the-top “BYE!” meme looks awfully, AWFULLY hypocritical (as well as uncharitable).

To clarify, I asked why politeness is now viewed as a deficiency and found it confusing that you complain about the lack of charity in posters here but defend it when referencing Trump’s remarks. I’m still confused. But alas, that’s another thread.

To clarify, I’m the one confused by your posting a smarmy BYE! Meme while demanding we all be polite and charitable.

Again, I did not demand we all be polite and charitable. I asked why you feel comfortable defending the impoliteness of our president while chastising that of posters here. That said, without attempting to dismiss your concern, I suggest we address this via PM if you’re of a mind to, so as not to derail the thread’s focus.

If you think they’ll observe the private ownership of such things…
There’s statues on private church grounds everywhere. If they’re not accessible, they are generally left alone.
If the church land is visible to the public, they won’t hesitate to take it down. In the riots most vandalism was on private property.
How many tens of thousands of people ae involved in the protests? If one group makes a mistake that shouldn’t count as an indictment against all of them.
Ok. Most protesters had good intentions. Racism is still a problem.

But after the first couple days the protesters could see the looting, vandalism, hatred and sometimes violence against police that (unofficially) accompanied the protests. Most of the police killed or injured in protests/riots process were not in the first few days. Protest leaders knowingly allowed them to be put at risk of what predictably happened.

Lots of people want to PM me (privately) when I call them out publicly and they don’t like it.

Your over the top BYE! meme was wholly inappropriate and 180 degrees removed from what you were asking for last night.

I call on anyone here – anyone – to say when I have said, “PM me or we’ll derail the thread” to them. It’s not something I remotely do regularly. But you can believe what you like.

Grace, I have a very large issue - as we all should - with what amounts to mocking a newbie on the way out the door.

You don’t want to acknowledge it; you want to talk about something else; you want to accuse me of derailing the thread; whatever…but that’s what you did. A newbie came here to join the community and felt unwelcome.

And you responded with mockery.

It’s even worse that you were scolding people on another thread for being “uncharitable” at the exact same time.

Last post on this topic. The person in question derailed the thread by flouncing.
Flounce

flounce (flaʊns)

v. flounce, flounced, flounc•ing,
  • To leave an internet group or thread with exaggerated drama; deleting posts, notifying mods and or group users, and cross-posting on other groups to draw attention to the drama. Comes from the original use of gathering up skirts and petticoats and leaving in dramatic, impatient and exaggerated movements.
This is inappropriate behavior on a online forum, new member or not. His or her post was uncalled for, and yet I responded with an image involving a smile and a wave. If you continue to have a problem with this, unfortunately that’s beyond my control. I have suggested that we discuss your concern via PM, an idea you declined. I therefore have nothing more to say on the subject.

If you want to make an issue out of “deleting posts,” Grace, you’re the one who hurried up and deleted your smarmy meme.

Too bad the damage from it is long done.

I deleted it to avoid further distraction on this thread. And you refuse to let it go.

Let it go.

God bless.

Sadly the message is clear. Disagree with the dominant narrative and leave? Buh bye.

Yep. Unfortunately it’s been happening to one side a bit more recently.
I’m not sure which thread you are talking about because this is one somewhat balanced and it’s limited to simple disagreements. Compared to places like Twitter and Reddit that don’t have any form of civility this is heaven.

I respectfully disagree, on a number of levels.

People leave for many reasons – but when they say they see uncharity, IMHO the appropriate response is NEVER smarm and mockery.

It’s worse that this smarm was 1) done by someone who was engaged at the same time in trashing the alleged lack of charity shown others; and 2) done by a long-time poster (Grace has been here many years, nearly a decade).

When old hands mock, ridicule, etc., newbies, they turn this board into what it often is: An echo chamber of the same people, repeatedly congratulating themselves for how smart they are, how charitable they are, etc., while condemning those who dare question them (last night Grace actually asked me if I was Catholic). To me, that is 180 degrees different from what we as Catholics are called to be.

He left because of ideological reasons he didn’t mention charity.
