JW,

Being from St. Louis I can tell you that we are truly blessed to have Archbishop Burke as our shepard! He is a very kind and compassionate man and does not deserve the verbal abuse that he is getting. BTW, where were all the cruel words to Sheryl Crow when she said to reduce global warming only use one sheet of toilet paper?

I digress. Archbishop Burke has come under attack more than once and has continued to stand strong and to not back down. Under the imense pressure, I am not sure how he does it.

Unfortunately, when Pope Benedict XVI was elected his memo stating “The Cafeteria is Closed” did not reach all parts of St. Louis. St. Louis has a large Catholic population, but unfortunately, not all stand for Holy Mother Church. Maybe they like the cafeteria that much?

Anyhow, there are many that support him and his leadership, I know that the letters sent to him mean a lot, having been a member of the “Defenders of Archbishop Burke” I recall emails stating his appreciation, so keep them coming.

God’s grace be with those that just don’t “get it.”
Yes, I noticed the Bishop bashers are out in force on the St Louis Dispatch pages. 😦

Praying and I sent AB Burke an email of support.

Archbishop Burke dealt with a major controversy not long ago when he wanted to close an old ethnic Polish parish, St. Stanislaus. The fight over this parish was rather ugly and was carried out in public.

Not being from St. Louis, I don’t know how other Catholics in the Archdiocese judged Archbishop Burke.

The St. Louis Channel 4 website carried several caustic and nasty comments about Archbishop Burke. It was sad to read them.

From what I have read and heard about Archbishop Burke, he is a good and holy man and a fine shepherd for St. Louis. The people of St. Louis are fortunate to have him.
For a little clarification, AB Burke did not want to close St. Stanislaus. He just wanted to bring the management of parish assets into archdiocesan hands, in accord with canon law.

He actually bent over backward to offer to set up a separate fund for “their” assets. In addition, he said he would not close the parish as long as it remains viable. As far as I know, this is a guarantee no other parish has received.

God bless the Archbishop! We need more shepherds with spines as strong as his!

Thank you for the clarification.

There was a schism in the Catholic church in the US in the late 19th century involving ethnic Polish parishes. In Poland, the tradition had been for the members of the parish to own the church and its assets and to have a say in who would be assigned the pastor.

Upon coming to the US, many Poles sought to preserve this tradition. Well, this wasn’t the way things are done in the US, where the bishop has authority (not ownership) over the parish and its assets. Thus, the Polish National Catholic Church came to be.

I pray for Archbishop Burke. Anyone who would side with some mediocre pop singer over the Archbishop is in need of conversion - and this goes especially for Bob Costas.

Thank you for the info on the details of the distant history. I always wondered how it came to be that St. Stan’s wasn’t set up correctly under canon law. There is my one new thing learned for the day. 🤓

I guess you could call our culture today the pop culture of death…

Yes, We need to continue to support and pray for the Good Bishop. Indeed we live in a culture of death, and his message of the gospel of life is constantly under attack.

I sent a supportive email to the Archdiocese. I told them I wish he would catechize all of America’s bishops (and priests).

I want to thank you all for your words of support for Archbishop Burke. I am from St. Louis and do not speak for the archdiocese, but as a local Catholic, it is encouraging to hear words of support across the globe.
The comments in the local forums are truly awful and probably represent the attitude of many against Catholics in general.
Please continue to pray and express your support publicly. We need it!

God Bless all of you.

Offering Mass today for St Louis maybe a very good way to support the Good Bishop. Let all keep him in prayer today.

I just read the diatribe which showcased the joy Costas and crew had mocking the Good Bishop. 😦

The good news is at the bottom…at least they reported that. Keep those emails of support rolling folks.

Steffens said Saturday that Burke had received hundreds of e-mails about his decision to leave the board and that the messages were overwhelmingly supportive. She said that of the 797 e-mails sent to Burke, 647 supported the archbishop’s position.

I was pleased to see in this article that the Archdiocese will be giving the money directly to the hospital from now on instead of through charity. As far as Costas and Billy Crystal go, they obviously don’t understand where “charity” begins. At least Crow is silent on the matter for now. I hope that is a good sign.

Yes, and there were 2 other pretty good articles I read also on the site.

I sent an email to Archb. Burke- he needs our support. And thanks for the link!

I will pray for Archbishop Burke as well.
Archbishop Burke is obviously more concerned with the teaching of Christ than fitting in with blowhard pop culture figureheads. Did not Jesus say, “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first?”

I didn’t bother to read what Costas and Company had to say about the Archbishop. It’s fair enough to say that I’m not planning on watching programming involving Bob Costas.

😃 You might want to toss up a prayer or two for me. Some nutjob named John just let me know I could be murdered for $5 on the Post Dispatch Blog.

Good grief! The demons are after the good Bishop. Well, guess I can deflect them for a while. Anyone know where I can get a bullet proof vest cheap?

We should all be so fortunate that our bishops would be like Archbishop Burke. This man stands up for the teachings of the Church, which frankly, is something missing in a lot of our leaders. Perhaps the rest of the bishops and cardinals in this country could learn something from him.

:bigyikes: Not sure of where you could get a bullet proof vest. Maybe ebay??? If you do find one, you may want to get two (one for you and one for the Archbishop), given what the person on the other blog.

It does seem as though the little stinkers (demons) are out in full force on this one. I pray that St. Michael will round up a few legions of warrior angels to surround Archbishop Burke and all of his defenders. And for all of those who are so violently opposed to his Excellency, I pray that God will shower them with abundant blessings today and always. 👍

It was a pretty sad diatribe al right. On an on they raged. I was surprised there were so few Catholics standing up for the Good Bishop. OH! Well, at least the AB, I and someone named Chris are the targets. Maybe Chris and I can stand on each side of him and defray the bullets.😃

I’ve added my voice to the debate over at the Post Dispatch too, though it seems to be dying away now. Give witness to the faith and get over there, y’all! 👍

Sent an e-mail and received a very nice thank you from the Archdiocese. So they are hearing us in St. Louis.
