Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name.

And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil

Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb
Jesus
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be
World without end
Amen.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion - inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to your holy will, which is love and mercy itself, Amen.

I haven’t posted in a while and unfortunately I have no good news. After SEVERAL attempts to go to RCIA and being squashed by verbal tirades by my VERY anti-Catholic husband I have decided to keep quiet and just pray. It’s clear to me I cannot talk to him about the Catholic Church or converting. Anytime I do he treats me badly for days, there is crying, yelling and charges of spiritual rebellion against his authority as head of the house. Our 3 going to be 4 children have been/will be baptized as brand new infants. So at least my kids will be baptized. He’s “traditional Anglican” think tractarian movement with all of it’s “we’re Catholic just not part of the ‘Roman Whore’”. He hates the Marian doctrines, the Pope and anything to do with him and his authority, purgatory, and unlike most Christians he thinks that Jesus was not just born with a human nature but a “sin nature” ie original sin.

All I can think to myself is with man things are impossible but with God all things are possible. I allow him to brow beat me into submission and I say “oh I see your point dear, lets stop fighting you’re right” or I just have a never ending saga of yelling tirades. So I have been quietly attending whatever Anglican church he wants to attend (totally not buying any of it as valid) just so I can have peace with my husband and my kids. Our oldest is 8 and youngest is in the womb due in January. (another 1 and 2 year old too) I’m going to say the novenas to St. Monica and St. Rita afterwards I’m going to start praying the Rosary but I have to sneak because he’s convinced it’s “speaking to devils” since the Saints and Mary cannot hear me. He’s reluctantly gone with me to a very conservative Catholic Church in our city but pouted and dissed it the whole way through. I truly think he’s got some demonic thing going on to be so “foaming at the mouth angry” about the Church. I talked to the head priest at that church we went to about my situation his advice was “well unless you want a messy divorce you may have to wait till your children are grown”. The longing I feel is intolerable. Everytime I get away from reading something Catholic, listening to something Catholic or watching something Catholic I no matter what am DRAWN back to it and feel a great sense of loss because I cannot be part of Christ’s church. He won’t read anything pro-Catholic. He said that Cardinal John Henry Newman’s “Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine” was just a way for Cardinal Newman to give an excuse as to why he “sold out” and became a “traitor”. I’ve never seen anything like it…

PLEASE KEEP MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF AND CHILDREN IN YOUR PRAYERS!

His name is Bill.

St. Monica, St. Rita PRAY FOR US!

ps. please don’t tell me “convert anyway, he’s a jerk controlling etc. etc.” Look I have 3 going on 4 kids and I won’t have them raised in a screamfest house. It’s weird he doesn’t yell or get angry about ANYTHING else, just this. I came from a broken home I won’t do that to my kids or have my kids thinking that I chose joining a church over being married to their father and therefore ruining their childhood. He may be a jerk about this (I agree) he may be controlling (I agree but really what if he were Catholic and I wanted to be JW?) I think he would have a right to be upset and not want “discord” in the house. So please no “dump him” or “convert the hell with him” comments that really doesn’t help me I need your empathy, support and prayers.

St. Monica,
I love you and look to you for support and guidance. Please help my husband become a practicing catholic.
Amen

You have indeed been given a challenge. My husband is very similar in his attitude toward the Church. What I believe is that God has a very powerful plan to use us as a couple some day in the church and that the devil knows this and is fighting hard to keep my husband from entering fully into the Catholic Church. This thought gives me strength to not despair, have hope and trust in God that in His perfect time and according to His perfect plan, he will bring our family together, united at the foot of the cross in the Catholic Church. I agree with you that the best thing to do is to keep the peace and take up a spiritual battle. It is not being a weak person to avoid arguments with your husband and take this battle to where it is actually being fought: on a spiritual battlefield. Arm yourself with prayer, ask the Saints to pray with you. A book that was really powerful for me was “The Power of a Praying Wife”. The author is actually not Catholic (which in your case actually might be a good thing since your husband won’t freak out if he sees it) but I found it powerful just to learn how to pray over my husband. Be strong! God has given you a difficult journey because he knows that you are the right person to travel it! 🙂

Thank you so much for you encouragement it means a great deal to me…I will look into that book!

I’ve been gone for awhile, but lately I’ve been feeling the need to return to this thread:

Dear St. Monica,
troubled wife and mother,
many sorrows pierced your heart during your lifetime.
Yet, you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence, and profound faith,
you prayed daily for the conversion
of your beloved husband, Patricius,
and your beloved son, Augustine;
your prayers were answered.
Grant me that same fortitude, patience,
and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
that God may favorably hear my plea for

my husband’s conversion to the Catholic faith

and grant me the grace to accept His Will in all things,
through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

Saint Monica I love you very much and ask that you please pray that my husband become a practicing catholic.
In Jesus name I pray.
Amen

St. Monica, please pray for my unbelieving soon-to-be ex-husband, who is interested in spiritual work and conversions within his own religion which has no name. I pray that someday he will see the work of Our Lord and want to follow only Him and use his gifting for that special purpose. I have failed wholeheartedly and I regret not having the patience and virtues as St. Monica. Please intercede.

In Christ,

~Lily

I’m so glad this got picked up - I could use those prayers, St. Monica (and anyone else who’s willing to add a prayer or two)- I won’t go into it too much, but I hope my some of my family can come back-
God Bless

I’m so moved to find this here. My dear deceased mother wasomica & my beautiful 3 year old daughter has Monica for her middle name. I ask you all to join me in prayer to St. Monica (& to my own mother who was very aptly named) that my husband experience a true & Godly change of heart & agree to stop our divorce& come home to his beautiful child & wife who has found the courage to admit she still loves him even after we have greatly wronged eachother. I ask your prayers for God to reunite & protect our family & have the courage to follow the path He shows us toward being once again a loving intact family. I also offer my prayers for all of you that we may keepcalm in our faith.
