Yay for Archbishop Burke! :extrahappy: I just pray that the media will also repent for painting him to be the Big Bad wolf that he is NOT :tsktsk: and start reporting the actual news! God bless him for his fidelity to his vocation.
I, too, am excited about this news. So happy to have Archbishop Burke as our spiritual sheppard.

I hope that this actually means something both to the priest and to the people who go to that church. I fear it only fits the convenient narrative that they’ve likely painted, that living the gospel truly leads to oppression - instead of realizing that they’ve hijacked the real gospel and substituted for it something else entirely.

This truly saddens me. I am fully supportive or Archibishop Burke. We truly need more Archbishops that are willing to make a stand for Catholcism.
What saddens me is that a priest (potentially soon to be ex-priest) appears to be supporting anti-catholic beliefs, such as ordaining woman. (This priest is now trying to align the parish with an excommunicated bishop from Africa as if this keeps the sacraments in order)
The governoring board appears to place more emphasis on them being in control then submitting to God’s will. If I recall correctly one of the board members stated that their actions are acceptable because “we all pray to the same God”.
It is so easy to get lost in this world. So many good families being deceived by a governing board and a priest with an agenda. Pray for them.

It’s pretty interesting (and very scarry / depressing) to read how this once orthodox parish is heading down the road of total schism. I don’t think most of the parishners really understood what they were signing on for when they first stood up to Burke. Most of their ancestors who built that parish would be agast at what has happened to their church.
On a positive note, this is twice (the first being the article on how Burke has positively influenced the growth of our seminary) that the Post has actually published a story that doesn’t paint Burke as an ogre.

Just a quick note, there is no such thing as an ex-priest. Ordination makes an indelible mark on the soul. He can be a laicized priest with no faculties, but he’ll always be a priest.

We are so blessed to have Archbishop Burke as our spiritual leader here in St. Louis. He is a gentle, good and holy man, but he has also proven to be a very strong shepherd who is loyal and a good advocate of Holy Mother Church. Thank God for him! Though I pray about the situation at St. Stan’s, I am very pleased to see our good Archbishop vindicated and supported by the Vatican. I was soooooo tired of seeing him portrayed as an ogre by the local media. And, amazingly, after St. Stan’s lost the appeal, the local rag of a newspaper, the Post-Distpatch, actually printed a more balanced article about Archbishop Burke than I’ve ever seen them print before. Catholic bashing is the norm in the P-D and with the local media, so I am pleased that they at least apparently just reported the news and facts this time without putting their spin on it. Finally. Wonders never cease!

You are right, Kris, the P-D did recently publish an article about Archbishop Burke influencing increased numbers at the seminary. I read it thinking I saw positives but kept waiting to see negatives, but didn’t find any in that article. That’s pretty amazing! Maybe it is a trend toward better things! We can only hope!

Truly good that such action was taken. Unfortunate that the Church had to excommunicate them and anyone else who takes this action. Even sadder is that according to some articles those involved have little concern for their excommunications. They believe it will have no effect on them. What Catholic faith are/were they following?
100 -2,000 years from now the Church will still see silly things like this, and still people will ask why the Catholic’s won’t conform? Thank God it is His Church and no man or woman’s personal views on the conformity of the Church will change that.

When I read about the various schismatic groups that are in the news, I think about the analogy of the Catholic Church being like Noah’s Ark and saving us from the flood. While many different groups may claim to have the truth, we are safe inside the Catholic Church which will prevail against all evil. The flood waters of heresy and disobedience push mightily against the walls of the Ark, which is the Church, but She will keep us safe.

This is so true. I think about this past Sunday’s Gospel reading.
It really struck me this week how important our Church is and the fact that She has been built upon the Rock. I just pray that these people will see the light before it’s too late.

The priest that parish board recruited to be the pastor up there was in our diocese before. He was forbidden by our bishop from going there to that parish in St. Louis. So he was disobedient to his lawful bishop before he ever even started in St. Louis.

I first read about this on the Traditio website (a sedevacantist site – they’re more anti-Rome than the SSPX); they love this particular priest, and hope he decides to join the “true Catholic Church”.

Since priest swear on solemn oath of obedience to the bishop that would make him an oath-breaker, a very serious sin, according to the Bible. Living in sin with a woman is no less serious than his currect adultery with this Church.
On a side note, the bishop that was there before needs to be counselled about better teaching the truth of the Catholic faith. It is unbelievable that only 5 people voted against schism. Obviously this parish had poor faith formation.
