I must say that I like St. Therese Lisieux better now that I’ve seen her in costume as St. Joan of Arc.

“The Little Flower” image doesn’t hold much personal appeal to me since I’m not the warm-and-fuzzy or touchy-feely type. But St. Therese has much more depth than simply sentimental flowers, as seen in these pictures as well as some of her writing, and I’m glad to find that I can relate to her on some level.

Yeah, Blessed Pier Giorgio certainly seems to have enjoyed his short life. Great role model for young people. 🙂

St Therese was about 14 years old when she had these photos taken which are quite beautiful. She devoted he life to God. She loved God and spent her short life doing his work. She has been an inspiration to me in my life and helped me in the most miraculous way. Love the little Flower and do not judge her

Jim just off the cuff, you might remember I asked for information to start a third order carmilite group. I colated the information from what you and others gave me, and handed in my papers to our priest reguards to the formation of a carmilite third order and this morning at Mass he told me he agrees and will help me set it up. Praise God, it isn’t too much information to start with but is enough (about 9 pages) of information.

I was a bit scandalized by the fact that St. Therese allowed herself to be photographed in a theatrical costume in a worldly pose, when she was a nun, and also shortly before she entered the convent, dressed in an unbecoming fashion. Could this be explained somehow?

For this to be explained you would have to say why it is unbecomming and what is unbecoming about her dress?
 
um, I’m not sure what about the poses in these photographs you find scandalous. The first, her 15-year-old portrait, appears a standard pose taken by any photographer. The second is a detail of a larger photo of Therese as Joan shackled to a ball and chain. The shackle isn’t visible in the pic that you linked here. The third looks like she’s just standing there with a sword in her hand and someone snapped the picture. She’s not even looking at the camera. It could have been taken during the play that she was performing.

If there’s anything scandalous here, it’s the assumption that Therese is behaving inapporpriately.

Furthermore, being incorrupt is not a prerequisite for sainthood.
 
Sigh, aren’t all women beautiful and radiant in some way? My mother grew up a very devout Catholic and was quite beautiful to my father and to us, but maybe other folks might not agree. I guess my point is, to quote Ray Stevens, “everything is beautiful, in it’s own way”.

I wonder if anyone has pics of “ugly” or unattractive saints?
